I wasn't funny at the time ...but here is mine...I bet my face turned the color of my car...it's pretty funny now I'm SURE there will be others in the future, but this is the worst yet..... http://www.neptune.com/users/riporter/videoWMP/riporter446064.wmv it's ok though...that lil ole Mav redeemed me...launched from idle gave him a car length and still beat his Big Block Camaro butt to the line by half a car length
As long as your having fun! Bet the guy in the Camaro had to come over and look at what he was beet with! A small block!
I would say that was one of his most embarassing moments. For me it was getting beat by a guy named Rick Porter at the Roundups. Actually once I forgot to turn on the electric fuel pump. Worked ok until I got about 100 ft out.
Well It wasn't at a track, I was uuuum.....street racing. And I was driving a 70 challenger 383 4spd car (lots of fun). I admit, I was a little nervous and shifted the car into second right out of the gate. I muffed the run, everyone knew it but to make matters worse when I flipped a u-e and the end the driverside door flew open and I felt like a real dumb a$$. Friends just couldnt leave that one alone for a very long time. Aaaah good times
Mine is not too embarrassing...just running two good runs, then dropping the exhaust dumps, and having it spit and sputter at 3500rpms and finishing an 1/8th at 40 mph. Sorry, no video to prove how awful a name I made for the "Mighty Maverick" as I am known "in these parts".
i was running my fairlane. it had helper springs in the rear. on came out as i was doing the burnout. pulled into staging. the starter motioned me to roll down the window. he asked if the spring was mine. i said yes and we threw it on the back floor. lights came down, i hit the gas. didn't go anywhere as i had put it in neutral to talk to the starter and forgot to put it back in gear. one of many stupid stories.
I guess it was kinda embarrassing to have a couple of really good burnouts with my new line lock. Finally, the starter tech pulled me over and says "you know, you have been burning out IN the water box, and when you let off, you are still in the water...that is why you are peeling out at the line." "Oh.... " says I...
lol...good stuff ya'll ...the next pass the starter motions us into the box...walks over to my car and pulls the scoop cover off and gives it to me ...it was just one of those days
How about a 1st to 5500rpm, shift to 2nd until 5000, then into NEUTRAL to 7000 or so rpm, on an otherwise good run... All of these happened in one weekend. The first week the track was open in over a year. I have been out of practice
my buddy let his wife drive his super street car. she went through the staging beams and staged her rear tires. they backed her up. when the lights came down she took off in reverse. lucky no one was real close.
1) First time at the track, launched with my rev limiter set to 3000 RPMs! Nice 20 second run! 2) Second time at the track, first time with N2O. Was PARANOID about running lean and blowing up the motor. (was pretty naive) Halfway down the track on a good run the motor started popping and making BAD sounds then shut down. Had to get towed back and told my buddies "nitrous lean-out". Well, the above-mentioned rev limiter had grounded out. So much for my high school wiring skills!
Mine was 14 years ago, when I was waiting in a long line to run, and got out of the car, leaving it there and walked over to the pits where some friends were. Well, it was quite a distance from there, and next thing I know, they're calling my number on the PA and I had to literally run (embarassing in itself) back to my car. other cars were behind it and had to go around it. They scolded me and said for me to never leave my car unattended in the staging lines. My 2nd most embarassing track moment would probably have to be when I ran a friend's 351W-powered 4-speed Comet GT down the track. I missed two gears ('cuz I wasn't familiar with speed-shifting a manual trans). Had a ridiculously slow E.T. as a result of it. That was embarassing...
how many of these can we have. 2 years ago at bakersfield for the division 7 et finals. we stopped at burger king on the way to the track and grabbed a couple of breakfast sandwiches to take to the track with us. ate them after we got there, then started working on the cars. checked oil and water, aired the tires, put the hood on, and got sick. ran to the portajon. was in there for about 45 minutes. when i came out everybody was gone to the staging lanes. i jumped in the car and drove up there. did my burnout. launched and got about 100 ft. when the hood went flying straight up in the air. i continued down the track. the most embarassing part was when i had to go back to the staging lanes and pick up the hood. couple of scratches that was it. same hood that's on the car today.
