Ok lol. I think I got confused because I didn't know part of the relay itself was referred to as "the coil side." All of my references to a coil were referring to the ignition coil. It's a coil for a Petronix Ignitor 1 ignition... I was reading somewhere on here that they are supposed to get 12v at the coil and our ignition wire only sends 6v (verified my wire with a multimeter) The electric choke is on an Edelbrock 1406. Was also reading somewhere on here that it requires 12v and the keyed on post of the starter selenoid I have it attached to now is only showing 6v on the multimeter. I was going to not use the 6v wire on the coil, and just use it to trigger the relays. That's a good heads up on 6v not being enough to trigger the relays... I wonder if anyone else has had the same problem. Where did you grab your 12v source to use as a trigger? Thanks for all the help guys
I used a wire that was used to trigger my OE altenator after I installed a one wire aftermarket alt. It worked fine for abt a year. Then one day I was heading to a show and noticed my cooling fan wud not come on. Luck it was local; I was able to return home thou my engine was on the warm side -- Luck for me it was not vry warm that day and I was able to keep moving. I tested the circuit and was not getting sufficient voltage. I went to a 12v source and that solved the problem - that was 3 1/2 yrs ago. I wud put all of the things u mentioned on 12v source.
If you're powering a ign system from from the relays you can use the red/green resistance wire for trigger, as the relay coils won't draw enough current to pull the voltage down more than a volt... It's only normally around 6v because of the load of the ign coil... With coil disconnected you'll read 12v... Mine is wired this way but I'm only triggering one relay, others are fed from from fused circuits directly from battery...
