I found a guy who has a couple of 9 inch rears out of 63 conoline vans he only wants 75.00 for complete rear before I drive out to check measurements can anyone tell if they will work under a maverick or what the measrements are thanks
vans usually have the center section offset to the passenger side. im not sure about that old of a van.
As I remember early E100 ( 62-63 ) did not have a 9" center section 8" only a they were the narrowest of all 8" rear ends . If i'am wrong some will make it right
that's what this is suppose to be a 63 van and Rob says its a 9 inch ,I sure hope it isn't to wide cause 75.00 bucks for a 9 inch is dirt cheap and if it happenes to be a 8 inch with decent gears its still gonna be worth it,he has a wreck 71 grabber he is parting out and it still has the 8 inch for 75.00 bucks im for sure gonna grab it up since they r getting so scarce
We ran a 9 inch rear in our Camaro stock car back in 89 and we were looking for a set of 4.11 gears in a junk yard. We located an old Econoline van with a 6 cylinder and it not only had 4.11 gears but also a traction loc unit. The gears went into the stock car and I took the posi unit home with me back then and it is in my Maverick now
Those offset rears are great to narrow. Cut the long side to match the short and use a short side axle. I can't remember what length you end up with, but they are pretty narrow. Did one years ago and put it under a drag car of some kind, plenty of room for slicks.
I dunno on width but I believe you are correct on 8" only... In the early ones the 170 was largest engine avail... The 200 came out in '64 but I dunno if Econoline got them that early... Fords big 240 came out in '65, I know by '66 they were in the E vans(we had some of those at work)...
I bought the econoline van rear ,it measured to be around 60 inches outer hub to hub and it is off set but has the 3.50 gear according to the tag so I guess its true they did have 9 inch rears in 63 ,for 75.00bucks it was wortht the price
im 100% sure its a 9 inch ,if he lied to me about it coming out of a econonline maybe but it sure has the spring perches wide apart close to the ends of the axle housing but there is o dought its a 9 inch ,ive seen enough 9 & 8inches to know the difference
