You really need the dimensions of the box to figure shipping. With a grill, the bigger the box...the better. I like to use weed wacker boxes for a grill.
Yes, I know. I just needed to know what size to be looking for once I had the dimensions. The weed wackers I ever bought didn't come in a box. .. Thanks for the idea though..
That because guys like me go get the boxes when the wacker is put out for display. Most shipping companies recommend/require 3 inches (or so) of packing material between the object and the box sides. PS. Oh yeah.....make sure you ship the grill in a BOX!! Don't just wrap it in paper and send it.
The ones I've sold, I had to make a box. I think it worked out to about 60" long, just under the oversize mark. I wrapped the grills in bubble wrap, three or more layers, then in packing paper or old newspaper. Then I folded cardboard around the grill, and taped the snot out of it with the clear package tape. All of them arrived safely. My boxes weren't dimensional though, they ended up being kinda "V" shaped like the grill.
I have a couple NOS grilles - original Ford box is 46 1/2 x 9 x 6 But Ford didn't leave much room for packing material ...........
Thanks guys.. I have a GT grill in a factory box and you are correct. There is hardly any room for packing material.
I just shipped one .... box in a box ....55x15x7 .... right at 11 lbs. and that was fully assembled with sport lamps and bracketry.
I work setting promotional displays for products in retail stores. This one was delivered to my door. A great place to find big boxes is Michaels Arts and Crafts. They get a lot of large picture frames and decorative artificial trees, etc. You just have to catch them before they crush the boxes. Lowes can be good too, especially if they have just stocked window blinds ... long skinny boxes.
I was at Lowes yesterday and on the floor was a sturdy box used for rain gutters. It had two in it and the shelf was full. I asked for it and I got two stories. The floor guy said someone "buying" gutters might need it for transporting and then later the manager said no boxes are given and must be crushed in the bailer.. x2. I can see where I would like to have the box if I purchased a few rain gutters.. But who gets it? The guy with two or the guy with three or maybe the guy with one.. Buddy of mine works there so Ima call him and ask him if it's still there.. He was off yesterday. It's 20 miles from me.. Maybe i'll bring back some bushes that don't look so good..
