Im taking apart my differential to rebuild it but cant seem to pull it apart at this point. I removed all the screws holding the case in. Theres some play but im still unable to remove the cover entirely. Do i need to remove this pinion bolt? If so does anyone know what size it is? Thanks
Do you have the axels out. If you do it should come out. Its not just a cover its the whole differential stump.
axles are still in. Ill go ahead and pull those and hopefully then itll pull out no problem. Thank you!
Appears the copper seal washers are still in place, removing those will help as well(though not as much as removing axles)...
Itll be good to remove them anyways this way i learn and see it all for myself. Thanks a million guys!
axles are out and had no other issues pulling it out. Now i think i still have to take it apart to replace some parts inside that pinion bolt though haha oh well. Thanks for the help guys!
oh haha well hopefully all is well putting her back together. Im visual and once i take something apart its easy for me to put back. Plus ive been taking pictures along the way as reference just in case.
i had to get my friend to help me take that bolt off lol. i held the assembly down while in a vice and he used his weight as leverage to finally get the boly loose. Sucker was in there good!
More to it than that. The clearance between the gears has to be on the money or the rearend will be noisy
A dial indicator, marking compound, and a dial torque wrench. It's not as hard as people make it out to be. Just follow the instructions and double check everything. Getting the crush sleeve to start is the hardest part.
