Looking for a floor shifter for my 71 4 door w/ the C4. I do want the reverse lockout and lights if possible but I don't want to spend as much on my column shifter as I did on the carb I just bought (300 and some change). Anybody have any setups they can recommend?

Really depends on what you're considering as "clean looking".

Another option you might consider if everything looks too out of place(if you're looking for period correct) or maybe too racy for your taste, is to build a center console to hide it.

I need a center console anyways since I don't have the glove box, if I go that route. Did you just eyeball it when you made it or do you know of a template that someone has?

I just want something tasteful. I used vinyl that matched the grain of my original seats when I switched from bench to buckets but I switches to a V8 so factory spec isnt my mission. I'm open to all options, but was mainly looking ideas and for what others have done and how they like it so far.

Won't you need to change to the specific C-4 floor shift linkage on the transmission?

I always liked the look of the Ford floor shifter.

I didn't/won't make one for my car and was simply pointing towards the option of building one around the shifter of your choice.

Have you used the local search function around here yet too look at others ideas? IIRC, there have been a few guys using early model Mercury Topaz/Ford Taurus consoles and they look great.

'Wish I knew how to build one. I'd like to have one custom built based on the Granada console, but with a few changes/improvements (one being a cup holder).

That is a 'consolette' common to 1971-73 Ford Mustangs and Mercury Cougars. Slide out drawer has an ashtray. Might have come on other Fords too.
