What did you do to your Maverick or Comet today

    Yep. Pilot bushing had to come out to make room for the tip of the torque converter. I am new to the Ford world; GM cars can have a pilot bushing because the torque converter does not require its space in the end of the crankshaft. The internet is a wonderful for doing things once (hopefully once!). Never did the bread trick before either. I am such a newb.

    snapped a quick picture to help shove Larry's foot down his throat about how 26.4" and 27" diameter tires look massively too big on our cars. Hope he cleaned his boots off first.

    Thanks. Youll see plenty more of it doing burnouts and dyno runs if all goes well and we dont break the stock block. lol. Just rough mocking the color scheme till we get to the body work next year. Lots of subtle mod's planned to keep it stockish looking for the next couple years.

    It gets packed into the center of the crank to get it behind the pilot bushing. I used a 1/2" deep socket with a punch through the center so my hammer wouldnt beat up the socket, and pounded the bread in, added more bread and pounded some more. It forces the bushing out, just like grease.....but it is easy to clean up and not greasy like grease.:rolleyes:

    I finished aligning my c4 with the back of my 302 and got a few bolts snug. I dont know if everyone struggles with these things, but I had a hard time getting it all to fit together. I wanted to take the header off the passenger side but was afraid it would not go back in after the trans was on. My garage being a sheet of plywood under my car in the backyard isnt a help, but if I wait until I have a garage I may finished before I start. WP_20160408_19_41_05_Pro.jpg

    that's not a good thing.
    if the converter is seated correctly it should slide in easy...if it isn't the front pump will come apart. did you put the converter on by itself to see if it fit first? did you install the block plate?

    First, I made sure the input shaft was in all the way because it slid out at the junkyard when I put the trans in the wheelbarrow. TC was put back prior to install and rotated until it engaged the input shaft (first) and pump (second). Block plate is in. When installing, I had trouble getting the TC studs to go through the flex plate; they were so close, but not there. the alignment pins on the block looked to be ready to go in and I had a couple bell housing bolts started only a few turns. The transmission at this point was on a combination of blocks and a jack and all the wiggling I could do was not getting it together because the TC studs were not going through. I wound up turning the engine about 1 turn and went back under the car and everything was aligned and one last shove pushed the bell housing up to the block. Right now the only bell housing bolt that is tight is the one holding the dipstick tube, but it didnt get tight until it was seated....so I am hoping all is ok. I did not match the converter to the flex plate before I started (which I regret) but it did fit in the end.

    I wasted a starter and flex plate because I did not align the converter drain plug to the flex plate. The plate bolt holes lined up OK but I could barely get the nuts on and then had to wrench them down. Ended up distorting the plate.

    Take a good look before going any further.

    You know what I like about this picture? Doors back the stripe is red and the wheel matches, at the front the stripe is black and the wheel also matches!:beerchug: Not sure if it was by design but it caught my eye.

    I guess we are talking about the tires and wheels but being you mentioned it...to me the fender looks like it came off of another car...:huh:
