Thinking of changing the front drum brakes for disc on my 1971 maverick, question is do I need a brake booster? The brake upgrade will mean changing to 5 lug wheels on the front, so for the rear I was going to get 4 lug to 5 lug wheel adaptors, any suggestions on what company to get these from. The inside of the car gets very hot, I think it is the headers producing much heat, does anyone have any ideas on reducing the heat, that is not expensive.
we have manual discs on our 2 mavericks... the 72 was a drum car. no booster needed unless you want power brakes. both ours had 5 lug 8" rearends. cant comment on that
I think there are kits out there for the 4 lug fronts if your not looking to move to 5 lug all the way around. - Matt
I am running later Ford (Granada ... same as Mav)Disc brakes on the front, along with factory V8 drums on the back. You will want to get a Mav disc/drum master cylinder, available from most parts stores. I put an adjustable proportioning valve on mine, but many say the stock combination valve is fine. You will need to use the original pushrod in the new master cylinder, or your pedal will be too high. There are discussions here detailing that. I never put a booster in. The car stops well if you have enough leg. Too much heat .... any chance your heater is stuck on? There is a vacuum controlled valve in the heater line that tends to go bad with age. It turns the hot water flow to the core off. Barring that, a lot of us have put sound and heat barriers under the carpet for a little more creature comfort.
