Just an unsolicited bit of friendly advice .. Get Rid of the Flex-Fan .. especially if it has ANY damage to it .. We had a member here in Florida that lost his life due to one of these ' Flex-Fans' He had his hood up and was ' winging ' the throttle by hand when one of the blades came off .. and sliced his neck open and he bled to death in front of his wife before they could save him . His wife still has their Maverick but WITHOUT a flex fan naturally. Th;is is no "made-up" story .. it really did happen . Cometized Chip
The only "fitment issue" with the Champion (2-row) is that the mounting holes are a half-inch too high which makes the radiator sit a half-inch too low. It's an easy fix to drill 4 holes a half-inch lower which will make it sit perfectly. A half-inch isn't much, but it's the difference between sufficient clearance and insufficient clearance...
Did you install this one? Looks like I'm in need of a replacement. AutoZone has a Duralast one but looks like it has the bolt line-up problems mentioned on the Champion.
I installed the radiator and it fit fine. You will still have to trim the support brace or redrill the holes. But that wasn’t a big deal for me as I needed to trim the brace anyways to fit my electric fan.
Agreed !! Pitch the flex fan !! We had a member here in Florida lose his life when he was ' winging' the throttle and a blade dislodged from his flex fan .. Severed his jugular vein and he bled-out before he could be taken to the Hospital . His Wife still has their grabber . This is no Joke .. it really happened . ( Five years ago) I have a NEW Flex Fan hanging on the wall as a REMINDER .. never to use them . Just my take on this. Cometized Chip
I got a chance to run the radiator, with the black magic fan the car is kept very cool! The combo works great.
Good luck with the project. The insurance company will want to crush the car. Save it if you can. It will be a good lesson for your son to put in some sweat equity.
Can i see some pic of the install. I just Regular electric fan with no shroud and it seems to be pretty close to the water pumps.
Mine is fairly close to the water pump but i have around 1/2” clearance which is plenty. I cut off about 1/8” from the shroud to get a bit more clearance.
