Putting together a list of items to buy for a front disc conversion on my 5 Lug ,drum brake '73 Comet (mostly stock). From my research on here, many use the 14377 front disc kit along with the Wilwood Proportioning Valve (260-8419). What I can't seem to figure out is which master cylinder is required. I see that Wilwood list different bore sizes and me not having much background with these things, am looking for clarification from the group of what to go with. Thank you.
call Wilwood they can get you the one you need for their kit. I just installed a rear disc kit from them. I'm running a Strange M/C Dual Master Cylinder - 1.032" Bore wilwood Brake Kit 140-11403
I have not seen too many on here do rear discs, was there any issues with hooking up the parking brake or were modifications required?
needed to rebuild a caliper so I just got the wilwood kit. it said it was bolt on so I thought I'd give it a try. I had to do the same E-brake mod as on the CV setup.
Hey Frank - I saw that you have 4 wheel Wilwood brakes and that you had to modify the parking brake assembly to make them work. Am curious what you did? I used the wildwood cable kit combined with the Ford lever arm. It sorta works, but takes a LOT of effort at the handle to get the brake to set. Could you share your strategy?
I got a pair of explorer E-brake cables (the longest side) and took the inner cable out. took the stock E-brake cables and removed the inner cables. then put the explorer inner cables in the stock outer case , cut to length. took two 4 m/m allen bolts and cut the heads off. drilled a hole the size of the inner cable in the cups, stuck the cable in it and welded it closed. the reason for the explorer cables is they had the correct connector for the Wilwood E-brake arm. same process I did when I had the crown vic rear disk Brakes with stock Mav. E-brake cables.
