Hey guys, I will be running the old Cragar S/S wheel 15x8 with 265-60R15 tires in the rear. Will the 4.5" bs work ok? I want the tires tucked in as much as possible. My car is a 70 with the stock rear end. I am going to be changing the axles over from 4-lug to 5 before buying wheel/tires.

These are the wheels I am looking to going with:

    Thanks

    who makes these 265-60R15 tires?
Cragars are the most aggerating rim to mount on a car and what's up with them weird washers?

"I am going to be changing the axles over from 4-lug to 5 ."

what is your plan to do this?

They are 4/5" BS and 0 offset. I could just add a couple 1/4" spacers correct?

What about going with a 255-60R15 tires instead of the 275's, would that give me enough clearance?

You do know 5-lug axles will not fit in a 4-lug housing because they used different size O.D. and I.D. axle bearings. You will need a 5-lug rear end housing

Correct and thank you for the reminder. I am of having Currie or Moser make exact duplicates of my axles except with 5 lugs OR have a local machine shop re-drill my hubs, drums and rear axles to 5-4.5".

Guys, here's my deal on this build. I plan to get it running and driving with only a few mods like 5 lugs, street wheels/tires, new dash pad, some minor interior work and then just drive it as is. In the meantime I will be saving my money to do a complete tube chassis or at the minimum a complete back half with a 9", ladder bars and so on. This will be a street car always but I want it to be built so I could use it as drag car if I ever wanted to. Right now I am just trying to get some decent street wheels/tires on it and a few other things just to hit the local cruise in weekly. So, that's why I am not real concerned about swapping rear ends and all that right now. I am thinking of getting a local machine shop re-drill my hubs, drums and rear axles to 5-4.5" for now. I am really trying to save as much as I can towards my actual full build of this car. This car is not a daily driver. It gets driven a few times a month and only some 2-3 miles to the local cruise in.

The attached photo is what my ultimate objective with this car is:

Thoughts, ideas, suggestions are always welcomed.

    Thanks guys.

leave the 4 lug in and save that money for your final build.

I have considered that for sure but it may be a couple years or so before can start tearing down the car for my final build. In the meantime I would still like to have a nice tire/wheel combo. Financially, it will take me some time to get all the components together to start my final build.

My 1st Maverick was a 6 cyl, manual trans with 4 bolt wheels. I was headed the same direction that you are in a similar financial condition and I had to have cool wheels. I bought 4-lug to 5-lug adapters and ran them for a few years until I swapped the complete drivetrain. Don't be afraid of wheel adapters. The caveat is that you MUST torque them to specs and check them occasionally and they will be just fine. I nevr had a problem with them.
That car died of rust worms but my now Maverick is just out of the shop that back-halved it with a custom built cage.

Awesome! Did you have your back half custom made or did you buy a kit?
I have considered the adapters but I don't like the look of the wheels setting out any further than they do already. I do appreciate your input. Do you have any pics to share of your car? I'd love to see it. I am a pro street insane lunatic, LOL.

I bought a Strange Engineering kit with 4-link and coil over shocks through the installer and he installed it on his chassis table. (If you can weld very well Strange sends a detailed DVD with the kit showing you how to install it in your garage! I didn't trust my welding enough for that level of work.) The roll bar was custom bent & installed by the same guy. The interior sheet metal was done by another person. I'm finishing up some odds and ends and it should be back on the road in a week or so.

In the 1st picture I'm undercoating the car, the 2nd picture is missing the door bars, the 3rd is it going to get the interior sheet metal and last one is the door bars. (It's shape mimics the seat.) The last one is the chassis before tin work. I've always wanted a Pro Street car but now I have to convince the insurance company that it is a cruiser.

    Thank you!
The tires in the picture are out of date bias plys M/Ts so I bought new 29 x 18.5 x 15 M/T Sportsman S/R radials for it. I can get you the rearend width when I take those off to have the new tires put on the rims and finish undercoating the tubs. I need to update my 'garage'.

That would be awesome, I would like to use the same width on the rear end and the same wheels and tires you have. Thanks
