Hey guys, I read an article recently posted to Ford Performance talking about the Maverick on it's 50th birthday. In this article, the author talks about the original concept design for the Maverick, and said that the concept was originally sketched by code named "The Delta" by Virgil M. Exner, Jr, but I can't find any more information on this. If I'm reading the article correctly, this might have been around 1967 or so? I know that Ford use the call the Maverick the "Falcon Maverick" before it was released, but I had never heard of this Delta name before. I also can't find any more information about this concept car, and looking for the name and the image online doesn't give me any other results. I was wondering if anyone here knew anything about this? This single article is the only one that references this, and while Virgil Exner Jr talks about designing the Maverick, I can't find this sketch or mention of this name outside of this article. Maverick Turns 50 (ford.com) Thanks,
Info in that article would have been current early June '68. Back in the day, a 5-6 week lead time was required to get story into print. Includes edited, type set, actually printed, etc & distributed. Mag would have been on newstand middle of July, subscribers usually got theirs a few days earlier.
