I replaced the stock hood from my 70 maverick with a dynacorn grabber hood. When I went to prop it up I noticed that the prop rod was too long. Are there different length prop rods?
I tried that, but it did not want to go. Figured i would ask before I bent it. It’s too pretty to take a chance!
More than you wanted to know & doesn't answer your question. Per Ford Master Parts Part numbers are different for '70 vs '71-'74. No mention of Grabber any year & no length info. My '72 Comet uses same rod as '71-'74 Maverick. Into '75 switched to a short rod(Mustang part number). That rod mounts approx mid point of inner fender. Guessing you may have to cut rod & weld back together with a sleeve.
I drilled another hole about 3" down on my hood as to have the hood open higher. don't know why your hood want open higher...
So the part number being different on 70 makes sense, probably slightly different. I was able to push it up to get in yesterday, but it was definitely pushing on it more then it should. It works, though.
I had the same issue on my '70 when I installed a later hood with the A/C bracing underneath. I kept the longer rod 'cause it's nicer when working under the hood but I drilled another hole in the radiator support and have a cut down rod I use at car shows. Less chance of a gust of wind blowing the hood off the rod and slamming shut. Had that happen a couple times. Someday I'll get my air springs installed and do away with the rod setup...
I saw a Grabber hood blow up at a car show. the prop rod fell across the fender and the hood slammed shut...
