this may be a stupid question but before i get the notion i thought i would ask before hand someone who has done it if it is possible without chopping on the car floor... this would be behind a 351w IF i do it... lots of grease maybe? tiight
A c6 will not fit with out cutting he tunnel. A c4 will be fine behind a mild 351. My c4 is midly built and has been holding up to close to 500hp for about 4 months now and I drive my car hard every where I go.
well if thats the case i will probably go with a three speed toploader, but then i'll have to dig up clutch pedal and linkage to fit... uhg.
If this is for your 71 Comet or 72 Maverick it will be a really crazy tight fit, if it fits at all. If it is for your 70, it will be impossible as the 70 has the smallest of all of the Maverick tunnels
possibly i might have missed that, as far as which car the '72. i will most likely go with the three speed if its that tight, just have to find a good tight (non sloppy) column shift/er and pedal stuff... main reason for C6 question i have it. the '70 is all stock except grabber hood and mustang wheels and in need of complete resto but runs 200/C4 7.5" the comet has 289 4bbl/C4 8" the '72 was/is a donating parts car for the other two but will be reassembled later once the comet is up and running.
It'll fit..I have 1 behind my windsor in a 71 grabber, you'll have to make a trans mount that drops the trans down, and change the pinion angle.....you'll have to have a d-shaft made
I'll check my pics and see..if not, the next time I bring it to my shop, i'll put it on a lift and snap some
You can mount it in there without changing the pinion angle if you cut the upper part of the tunnel brace flush with the tunnel. This will allow the trans to go up just enough to get the correct pinion angle on the trans. You will need to make a new transmission cross member due to the position of the trans mount being further to the rear of the car.
