I'd probably have taken the $500. I've been majorly disgusted with my ebay transactions lately. I had 2 people win my Comet hood lip molding only to back out after the auction. The 3rd refused the package and it came back to me. Then asked me to ship it again.

Sounds like you were more than fair with the arrangement.

    So...was he a MAVERICK guy?

Well, at least you had the guy that called you and said he didn't have a chance to bid but would make an offer of $17,500..............

I'm guessing it doesn't meet the reserve this time. Sorry to say this, but, I'd think the only reason it went so well last time was that it immediately got some free publicity. Still hoping you hit that 20k mark though!

I also think posting this soon, after the last auction, gives the impression to those who just watched the last auction that something might be wrong with the car that is why the deal fell through.

I had a guy during the first auction that says he really wanted the car....An hour before the first one ended he called me and said he was actively bidding for it and would more than likely be speaking to me afterwards....Well it turns out for whatever reason he doesn't outbid the first winner {he tells me right after the auction ended that he got a business call as the auction was ending so he didn't get to bid, which makes no sense}:hmmm:

Anyway, right after it ends, i get this message

So, for reasons already mentioned here i try to contact him to arrange the sale of the car but no matter what i try {phone, e-mail} i can't get a hold of him...So two days ago he contacts me....Here is an e-mail i just sent him that chronicles everything that went down with this guy

What i'm figuring is he knows what the reserve was from the first auction {$16,000.00} If he hangs in there and turns out to be the winner with a bid of $16 or $16.5, i have to give him the car for that and that irked me so i killed it

Good for you. Sorry for you in that you haven't sold the car, but I wouldn't want someone playing me either.

Ebay is funny, it is all about timing. I had a friend list a car for sale and after the auction it didn't hit the reserve of 25k. One month later he relisted it and it sold for over 45k. Clearly timing plays a huge role in it.

    Good luck to you.....

Yep, I agree 100%. That goes with any sale really.. but especially an auction environment where you need the right buyers in the same room to get the money up. Timing is EVERYTHING.

IMO, I'd say screw these low-ballers and relist the thing later on when they've had time to see the error of their ways.. or for that matter.. even leave the room to make way for hotter buyers. Maybe even consider paving the way by doing some magazine entries to promote it for a later sale date. Picture quality can never be too good from your end either(some hi-res pic's at a racetrack sure wouldn't look out of place). And maybe even add a day of track footage(albeit, at some risk to the cars value if things go a bit wrong).

I'd say take a lesson from the Viper Mav to enjoy the car while simultaniously promoting it at the same time. And hey.. at least yours is payed for already and you're not asking for handouts to go have fun while you're promoting it. ;)

Also IMO, if you have implemented some of the "promotional recipe" mentioned above with that car?.. it could easily go well over 25k at a bigger auction event. Sure there's more "cash outlay with no sale" risk in that type of venue.. but the bigger audience and publicity that goes along with them can easily outweigh it when things go right. Hell, you never know.. that car could easily push 30k with the right nostalgia racing buyers in the room at bid time. Even with the shipping and fee's involved, you'll still be far ahead of those ebay numbers. We've all see far lessor cars than that one get bid up to stupid figures just because people are impulsive and competitive in that type of environment. Plus, besides super rare exotices and Musclecars.. race cars are auction bling and the auction crowds love them when they rev their way up onto the stage.

I surely wish you the best however you decide to go here. (y)
