Heya guys! I wanted to ask you all some questions about the 250 CID I6! One of the primary things I'm interested in is if someone makes an aftermarket or performance head / intake for the I6. I think I read on here that the head and the intake were actually done in one cast, and after I failed to find anything for a long time on any sort of aftermarket parts for it, I had given up. But, I was doing some reading on here and someone actually mentioned a performance head for the car, an OZ250o 2V head. The issue with this is that it seems that that 1.) Not a lot of people seem to be talking about them as of late, and it's kind of tough to find info on them. And 2.) They seem to be Australian parts mean't for the I6 Falcon? I was wondering if anyone here had any information about aftermarket intakes / heads for the 250 I6, like where I could look to get one; And what all I would need to do to get one to work on my car (a '72 Maverick with the 250 CID). I took my stock head to a machine shop and had them mill the cast intake accept a 2bbl adapter along with a few other things. I'm toward the end of my 250 build if you have any questions
yup. did that (myself on a Bridgeport) with mine about 5? years ago. had the machine shop deck it after i opened it up for a 2 barrel. its been working really well since.
Did you notice much of a difference in performance w/ this upgrade? I know someone who has talked about doing his 250..
Aluminum heads and milled intakes are top end upgrades and will produce amazing results with the small block ford six'. The anvil strong 250's performance can easily be upgraded with simple bolt-on's to ignition and fuel systems with reasonable performance improvements. Compression Ratio bump, Modern electronic ignitions, better than stock Carb' tuning , 2bbl adapter or Fuel Injection , maybe more Cam' - can really wake up the power in the torquey 250's in relatively light Maverick or Comet. small block six performance parts vendor i've used: https://www.vintageinlines.com/ have fun (MacInnes in his 'bible' book on 'Turbochargers", says the inline six is the simplest engine config' for power adders to be used... .) yes, absolutely. I didnt just bolt the 2bbl on either , i milled the crap out of and blended the large oval hole i milled into the log the aluminum adapter(which i also made) went onto. My original plan was to get the 6-1 and turbo it, but I didn't want to go through that much fuss on this car. So, i would up using a 1.08 bore carb with some earlier discharge nozzles to get the mid range right, bumped compression up some, run an HEI distributor, port matched the header, used a divider on between the 3&4. I bought the head remanned from advance auto of all places, i think it was 220 bucks on sale, but had it torn apart immediately to do all the mods and have it checked out. and yes, its a 250 head. Def worth it if you can do the work yourself. The cam was a big help as well, i did all the upgrades at the same time, prior was a good running stock 250 with less than 60k on it. Since my wife at the time had a V8 72, I wanted to try to upgrade an I6. even with all the mods, its stone dead reliable and pretty quick. The exhaust has a nice tone as well, 2.5" all the way to the back so its throaty for what it is. I just rerung it. and TBH, if it would have needed block work, it would have come out and a 351w I have would have gone in, and that 250 head and header would have gone on the 200 in my 62 falcon.. But, was all good so it got new pistons and rings an a hone and good to go.
