Don't ask me how this is possible, but..........I have a 1971 Maverick with power assist steering with a steering box with a tag that says SMA-F. And I would have to say that it is the 21:1 ratio without a doubt. How is this possible? And can I simply get a different 16:1 steering box and hook it up? Thanks for your help. Mike

Yup entirely possible, boxes are physically same...

Probably was dealer add on... There were kits avail for those who decided they wanted P/S after purchasing, I doubt the steering sector would be swapped...

    BTW Welcome...

Thanks for the welcomes. I'm a long time member, just first time posting. You can learn a lot from this message board just by using the search function. Believe it or not I'm in the process of 351w swap from a 302. And yes, I have the Crites headers coated and ready to be installed. Hope to get my Maverick back on the road by this spring.[IMG]

Thanks for the help, I appreciate it. As you can see, I am a firm believer in using the search feature of this forum. It almost took 10 years for my first post. :rofl2: Although I might be posting more here in the near future. I'm currently in the process of doing a 351w swap. Don't worry, I have the Crites headers already. Now.....if someone has any suggestions on how to make a shock tower shave look nice....I would be willing to listen. I hate the butchered look, need to figure out how to make the corners rounded for a more factory look. Thanks for the warm welcome. Mike

Ask Bryant about how he is doing his shock towers. Maybe he will post some pictures?
