... to my Comet. I bet I am within a month of it's actual build.

I was in the first 1600 Mercury cars built in Kansas City.
Probably the first few hundred Comets.

I have tatters of the build sheet but the upper left corner is missing and I would bet an actual date was on one of those pieces.

Build date code is in upper right. Row A(top), boxes 39, 40 & 41.

Upper left has rotation number, or number assigned on production line.

Had'ta do some digging, don't have a '71 Mav/Comet sheet(all are same for given year). This one is for a Ranchero & is still attached to a Torino sheet that was on line in front of it. Date is 10M, or 10th of Dec.

Rotation number 218, Torino sheet is 217. For some reason the Ranchero was scrubbed, sheet stuffed in proceeding build. Even though it's not a Mav/Comet would still be a cool car(likely key component was out of stock), optioned with 4bbl 351C 4bbl & Toploader 4-speed.

Of course the seat spring ate the sheet right where the month is. 25th day (probably August)

The vin ends in 1579. 1579th Mercury made there.

Enlarging photo seems to bear out your thought, looks to be the letter H, code for Aug.

That is pretty cool. I was all over it with a magnifying glass and a lot of light and couldn't make any letter out.
But this was put through the scanner and I think I am now seeing the same thing when enlarged.

Thanks for all your attention to this. I had no idea of the month code.
