Not sure if they were that exact model.. or if it may have been the ProComp variant(which are one of the worst).. but the offshore stuff can definately be hit or miss as far as reliability. Might be best to do a quick search on the model with the terms.."junk, burnt out, reliability, cheap, problems," etc. Should bring up many threads fron owners with pro's and con's.

I have done some reading on the Mustang sites and found some information, the proffessional products powerfire distributor won a SEMA award in 2008, proffessional products said that gm or msd replacment parts can be used (cap, rotor, module), but thier module has better advance curves.
The machined parts are done offshore, then assembled in california.
Some people like them and some don't, just try not get confused with ProComp, I will NEVER own anything with the ProComp name on it again!
BTW...I have a ProComp Distributor you can have free if you want to pay shipping lol.

I tried one of their...fuel pumps...fuel regulators...and powerjection III systems...and all were...JUNK. returned all of them. I had about $800 in plumbing and dyno time on the...powerjection III system...trying to get it tuned that I didn't get back...

You simply have to imagine that there has to be some corner cutting involved to get prices down compared to the bigger brand offerings. SEMA awards or not.. you usually get what you pay for. Plus.. they give awards to those with newer designs or hybrid innovations that fill vacant niches.. not for one's that have top notch quality or proven reliability. Fulfilling the hype takes time and buyers being guinea pigs to sort out their issues along the way. Very little testing goes into some of these "budget conscious and innovative parts". I've heard way too many hit or miss experiences with these off-shore and/or copy-cat brands.

Fortunately, return rates and "junk part" bad news word of mouth has helped to force improvements with many of these companies and some have drastically improved quality standards. For instance.. ProComp has made great strides from when they first arrived. Machine work that could never pass an eyeball inspection, much less a micrometer or even a ruler, and also slice your fingers in the process.. and HORRIBLE core shifting that no grinding bit could ever fix. IMO.. it's still mostly junk with poor casting and machining standards using cheaper bits and pieces than most.. but there are many running the parts without issue out there. Maybe not the fastest guys running them.. but the ones that do seem to be happy enough with the little bit of cash they saved in the process.

Unfortunately, even the bigger brands are now cutting more corners than ever with out sourced foundry/machine work to other countries or the cheapest local bidders. Core shift, poor geometry/machining, and flat out crappy quality control standards(far too many blems) are infecting many top money brands these days too. Holley, MSD, Edelbrock, Comp Cams and a few more that I can't think of right now are all guilty of greed with little thought to the resulting quality from a buyers perspective other than the shiny box it comes in. Pretty sad stuff... end rant.

Yes Everett, my Duraspark II seems to have been all my problems from the beginning with this Grabber, all the popping and backfiring with the last heads and all, it was the cause, the Pertronix is great and is easy to install, it has the magnetic pickup inside.

my dizzyspark never gave me any issues either once I got rid of all that external control box crap and went to running aftermarket stuff off it.

Much cleaner look without the box and huge dizzy cap to deal with.

I wouldn't call it greed. It's more like survival today. With the regulatory environment in the US, lawsuit abuse and the competition from off shore parts, it becomes a necessity to stay afloat for many businesses. Then add in newer employees with poor work ethics, both college educated and those with HS diploma's and it's rare today to find a quality product at prices one can afford. Hell even the products in the upper price range aren't reliable as they once were. It's a sad state of affairs and I don't see it getting any better anytime soon.

I know exactly what you mean and I surely couldn't agree more. But.. don't underestimate greeds affect on any business. Unfortunately.. it's one of the major negatives that goes along with capitalism and just boils down to human nature in the end. Still a much better system than the others though, IMO. (y)
