I am having a guy build a custom 9" housing. I would like to put the widest tires on the back without having to tub at all. (was told 10.5" tires would work), and having the tire stick out - would like it to be within the wheel well. I do not have experience in what measurements someone would need for our car. If you could post that it would be greatly appreciated. Also, for those who purchased aftermarket steering columns -- can you post a link? or length/ diameter I would need. (ididit)
if your having someone build a custom rear, the easiest thing to do would be to have your wheels and tires you want to run, then the housing can be made to fit.
Every car I have built, I get the actual tires on the actual wheels I'm going to use first. Put them in the wheelwell of the car and block them exactly where you want them to end up when you are done. Measure back to back of wheel. Give that width to your housing builder as the back or wheel to back of wheel measurement. Measure from the back of each wheel to the centerline of the driveshaft tunnel. That way they will know what offset you will need, They will build from there. If you don't have the actual wheels and tires, it's a crap shoot. SPark
