Looking at doing a small bumper conversion on my 1974 Maverick. Just wondering if anyone has any info on what all to do, and tips for me. Also if anyone knows as to where I can get some small bumpers. Leaning towards going to fiberglass maybe. Car is going to be a street/strip car. Anyone know of a good place to buy from? Also will need all the brackets(front and rear) And would be interested in steel bumpers as well. Thanks Gareth
If you search (not trying to be an ass) it's been discussed hundreds of time. Since you are in Canada, you'd be best to try and find someone here (The North) that has the parts, unless you want to pay big bucks for shipping and whatever Canada Customs feels like doing. There was another guy in Manitoba, but he got banned. Some of the smaller parts can be shipped from the USA for cheap. For the swap you will need: Front & Rear bumpers, front & rear brackets, inner rear bumper brackets, small bumper quarter extensions, quarter extension fillers, rear valance, front valance, front hood support, front stone guard. I'm sure I forgot something. Then you have the issue of the fenders, small bumper cars had a notch where the stone guard meets the fender. Now some guys will notch the stone guard, but I think the fender should be notched like the factory did it.
When you get the necessary parts to do the swap...here are a few pics on how I got small bumpers on my 74. Rear Bumper http://1bad6t.com/Maverick/maverick_4.html Front Bumper http://1bad6t.com/Maverick/maverick_30.html
Thanks very much!! This will be very helpfull once I get the stuff!!!! Nice to see one of the same year as mine too. Might have to talk when I start building...yours turned out very nice!
I'm looking to hopefully start the rear conversion this spring/summer. Can anyone tell me if the holes that need to be drilled in the light panel are on the same vertical plane as the big bumper brackets? I looked at the picture and they looked about the same, but just want to be sure.
Big rear bumper brackets are mounted on the frame rail...small rear bumper mounts are on top of frame rail inside trunk. Lay bumper mount in place to make/drill holes for tail panel
