I recently bought a spare c-4 that was suppose to have been rebuilt with a manual valve body ,how can I tell if it really does without installing it to see?it looks like it has a modulatyor valve with the vacuum hole plugged off.

also will this transmission go bad from sitting up in my garage since it is dry of fluid,it has been in a fellow maverikers car and pulled and replaced with powerglide

The Transmission Fluid for the FORD C-4 unit should be " TYPE ' F " .. If it's a GM Powerglide, it takes ANOTHER type.

According to PaulS it depends on whether the transmission has been rebuilt and what parts that were used in the rebuild as to whether or not it takes TYPE F or Mercon or what ever. He rebuilt my transmission for me and used stuff for using type f and recommends it

Transmission will be fine since it has had fluid in it already the seals have been lubricated, if it was a fresh rebuild and no fluid ever through it then it would be a different story

the tranny had type-f fluid in it and has red alto clutches and Kevlar band and suppose to have a manual valve body

If you are going to leave it sit long term you should add as much type F as you can get in there (overfill) for storage. More oil = less condensation damage
