dave, i have a 9" out of a mustang. i run 33 spline axels. had to use there bearings and pull the stock ones out. i think they said i could use the stock bearings with the 31. the 33's were the biggest i could use with a stock housing. the reason i went with the 33's was because at the time there was no warranty on the 28 or 31 and there was a 10 year warranty on the 33'sand up. i think they may have changed that now.
stmanser; Are the brake drums thicker/wider on a Granada rearend than those on a Maverick rearend? A Granada 8-inch rearend is supposed to be 1-1/2" wider than a Maverick, or 3/4" on each side. Granada track is 58 inches while Maverick track is 56.5 inches. So my point is that I don't know if you can necessarily get an accurate measurment from inside drum to inside drum...
well yeah......the drums on the one in the mav now are 9inch and the drum from the granada rear end is 10 inch.....they are thicker asd well...im just worried that i will have to run thick spacers so i dont get rubbing on the tires
Measure from outside drum to outside drum (wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface) and tell me what you come up with...
i will need to get the drums for the granada rear end and then take the wheels off the mav to do taht...i cnat do that until i can get up on base.... put it on a lift... but when i do..i will let ya know
That's the code off the rear end.. I found it though, it is an 8" WDV-K is 8" with 3.08 gears, Its a solid housing though, and I mistakenly thought 8" all had the removable carrier like a 9".
let me get a second opinion before i waste my time WDW-AF 9AA 2 79 8 551A is this an 8 inch rear end? 279 gears i guess...... but is the 9AA mean 9 inch or it the 8 next to 279 the 8 inch designator??
8 didn't have 3.08, the 8.8 did, I don't know about the 7.5 and 9. 8.8 had 2.73, 3.08, 3.55, 3.73. 8 had 2.79, 3:1, 3.50(maybe 3.55?), 3.8, maybe a 3.9, 4.1 9 had more than I can keep up with, not too educated on stock 9 inch rears... or am I wrong about the 3.08? I've never found it anywhere or any documentation...
I have had 3.00, 3.28, 2.79, 3.40, 3.55, 4.11 gears in 8" rears. 4.62 was available in something or other and I have seen a Merc. with 2.5something gears. Think it was 2.55??? I have heard 3.80s were made. 4.10 and 3.50 were never available to my knowledge as previously posted.
