I recently purchased all the goodies to convert my sons 74 Maverick 250 to a 2bbl weber using parts from Classic Inlines. The issue is that even using the carb hat the hood will not close. Mike swears that others have used this kit on Mavericks without any issues. Has anyone used this conversion with success or had any issues. Please help!

Is it a low profile hat? I know my stock carter 1 brl and slightly raised stock air cleaner are not more the 3/4" from the hood

Yes it is the low profile alloy hat. If I place everything on the manifold with out gaskets and the alloy portion of the hat the hood will close and there is less than 1/8" gap between the hat base and the hood. With the alloy hat the hood will not close. My idea is to mill off each side of the base and shave the lower lip of the hat.

Looks like the intake is machined. Was trying to avoid pulling the head and having it machined.

Classic Inlines 2 bbl conversion solution

A huge Thanks to DVCRobin for the tip on the 1 7/8" filter from Classic Inlines and to everyone who offered up suggestions in getting the 2 bbl conversion back on track.

I met with Mike from Classic Inlines today and picked up the temporary 1 7/8" tall filter and we discussed the hood clearance issues with the 250. Mike is going to look into making a slightly shorter bracket as well as a lower profile alloy carb hat. We also talked about a Sankyo style AC bracket for 250's!

    It was a good day!

I ran into the same problem when I tried to add a 2bbl to mine as well. Didn't have the time to waist on it since it was about the be ripped apart by yours truly anyway. Now that I have it back ;) I get to readdress this issue.

Well when you get ready for it contact Mike at Classic Inlines. He has a set up that will work. It took three trips to pick up parts from him (glad I live close to him!), but we got it figured out.
