Hey, just wanted to say "Hi". I bought my first car when I was 17, a 1972 Ford Maverick (the red white and blue olympic edition). The car was in rough shape, and I have been trying to get back to good condition. The car's seats had been destroyed by a dog, it had been in a minor fender bender on the driver's side, and had not been driven in forever. Within my first year of buying it I had to replace: -The Engine (302 V8) -Complete brake system (put drum brakes back in, couldn't afford the drums) -Carburetor -All the shock struts -Battery -Distributor cap -Fuel filter -All electrical wires -Stereo -Radiator -Hood (I never had the original hood, but I replaced the hood that was on it with a cool looking grabber hood) Then I ran into a problem where the gas tank rusted through, and shortly after I joined the military. The Maverick went into storage while I was stationed overseas, then I got assigned to South Carolina 2 years ago where I saved enough money to have it shipped to me. So last month I got my maverick back after about 7 years!! My wife saw it for the first time, and fell in love with it. I bought a new gas tank from Autokrafters http://autokrafters.com/p-9421-steel-gas-tank-19-gallon-71-77-maverick-comet.aspx I also bought the fuel sending unit, vapor valve, straps, seals, original stickers, replacement front fender, grille, lots of original documentation, and tires. I want to do my dual exhaust the same time I do my gas tank, I am looking at the 44 series Flowmasters. I want to do a X true dual set up. I know there are forums here that talk about that, if anyone has done it and can give me any pointers that would be awesome. Or if anyone has put up the same gas tank and give me pointers that would be awesome as well. I still need to redo the upholstery and finish some minor body work and get it painted. I know I need to flush the engine and fuel system (being sitting for 7 years, anything else I should do?) I look forward to being a part of this community and making any events I can, I love my Maverick! -Richard
Welcome to the madness from a fellow Sprint owner (There are a few of us) Looks like a solid foundation for a nice ride...Enjoy!!!
Thank you for the welcomes! The car was bought in Hemet, CA almost 10 years ago. In the past few days I have replaced the front drivers side panel, changed out the grille, installed a new dash cap, and installed a new fuel tank with new straps and fuel sending unit
