Allright first off this is the exact thing I posted on another forum... I want you guys to remember to not think about Maverick loyality to think logically for me and my first car.

As you guys can see I am in sort of a delmia... I think about how sweet a maverick or similar looks.. but i'm a tech guy and the interior doesn't really appeal to me.

I look at a Jetta. I don't like the way it looks on the outside... but I love the interior and the colors.

You can't make a Jetta look like a Maverick... but you can make the interior of a Maverick look more modern?

What about handling? I am told that no older cars handled well... how do your mavericks fend?

O and... how much room is really inside a maverick? I am a tall guy with most of me in my legs... I have a hard time fitting in some cars.

Sorry if I offended anyone with this post :p

look at razor sharops interior, looks rear sweet, Maverick Guy and courier11sec have put eclipse interiors in their cars. I'm sticking with the stock interior, but that's cause I'm going for a semi sleeper look.

Don't worry too much about offending anyone, as you just are stating your opinion. The worst should be is that we just agree to disagree.

There are definate shortcomings to Mavericks, but that was not uncommon in the '70s overall. Things like ergonomics were largely unheard of then. To say that it looks bad stock is something that you'll get a lot of flak about here. We pretty much all feel that it looks pretty decent stock. The lines and Mustang like styling are what seems to appeal to our growing ranks. Yes, they aren't known for stock performance or handling. That's not what they were marketed for back then. They can be modified to do both much easier than many other cars from this era, though, and often, cheaper also.

Things like headroom and legroom are the biggest shortcomings to this car. I'm 6'0" and I have enough headroom up front. I wouldn't mind a couple inches more legroom, but I've driven my Mavs on long trips and didn't end up like a pretzel.

There are several of us that have a Mav as a first car and love them. Even their peers seem to accept this unusual first driver for numerous reasons. I wasn't one of them back in the day, but wish I was. Mine was a '65 VW.
Make your decision on what is going to suit you best. A Mav would be great for a first driver!

PCGUY; I have Honda Civic seats in my Maverick, and it looks great. The seats are much more comfortable, and more adjustable. This is not bad thinking, just making your car to your liking, and to suit your personality. There is a lot you can do with the Mav interior, but newer, more modern seats make sense. Some on here use the Mitsu Eclipse seats, which seem to fit into our cars real well. Find your car, make it yours, and enjoy it. That is what our hobby is all about. Good luck, and Happy New Year!!!!!

My mav was (and still is) my first car. Man, I only bought that thing for the styling. I didn't know much about them back then. I'm not a big fan of the interior either but a lot of people on this board have done fantastic jobs upgrading theirs. New seats and a home-made centre console are usually the way to go if you want to jazz it up a little. Good luck (y)

I have always liked the style of the Mav. My daily driver I put Neon Bucket seats in, and a B&M Shifter.

I am 6'4" and fit in my mav just fine. As for the interior,, you can do anything your budget allows. Also I wont admit the Mav's look bad stock. I think their styling is great, guess you have to be a real Mav/Com lover to appreciate them.

I wouldn't worry too much about the interior, that's a lot easier to change than the looks on the outside. My 22 year old son has the same feelings about the Hondas and other rice cars. I gave him one of my Maverick parts cars and after a year of work we restored and customized it. We used Taurus SHO power reclining/lumbar front seats, custom headliner, custom door panels and reupholstered the rear seat to match. Looks like a late model interior now. I am using Lincoln MK VII seats in my 70 with a complete custom interior. The photos are of my son's 69.
