I am new to this forum. haven't logged on since last fall. But during the winter I got my 73 maverick running. But the vacumn modulator on the tranny is bad. It has two vaccum lines. a guy at a transmission place said to replace it with one with a single line? Can anyone help me? When I went to the parts store they had a green strip, a yellow strip and a red stripe. What does all that mean?

    Thanks Old Preacher

    You want the green stripe.

Thanks, I got a green strip one yesterday at the parts store. Now I am having a problem with the vaccum line. The old one had the two vaccum hook ups that pointed out and away from the modulator. The new one has a place to attach the lines in the back but the modulator is right up against the cross member that holds the transmission up. I guess I have to remove the cross member and try to attach the hose some way and then get the cross member back on.

You should be able to replace the modulator and attach the vacuum line without removing the cross member. Also your gonna need a new modulator hold down the dual line hold down is different.

I used ¼" fuel line to hook mine up. It is flexible, but won't kink making the bend around the crossmember. I used a pair of long needle nose pliers to put the hose on the modulator. Also, use only the larger of the two metal lines. You can either remove the smaller one, or just leave it there. :)

I could not make the Green Strip work so I put a new modulator with the two connections on it. The transmission still will not shift automatically. It shifts fine if I manually go through the gears with the shift lever. Any suggestions?
    Thanks

If the modulator works and none of the hoses are kinked I'd check the vacuum coming off the motor and make sure its where it should be.
