Guys, the black taillight panel on our 72 grabber (blue with white stripes) just doesnt look right. Were all grabber taillight panels black, or do they match the accent stripe color. Is ours supposed to be white, like the grabber stripes?

Yes! Back panel is the color of the stripes...

Those white stripes are not original to your car. If your car is a real Grabber...it probably was blue with black stripes.

I know black was not the only color for the Grabber stripes, but it may have been the only constrasting color available on certain colors, like grabber blue. Regardless of whether white stripes are correct on our car or not , that is not my question. Is there definitive info as to the rear panel color. The post above indicates it is the same as the stripe color. However, I have seen it different ways, each as supposedly authentic as they could be. We are not trying to achieve a perfect Grabber replica, but rather just posing the question, not for show purposes or correctness. The 72 brochure only shows the rear of a black striped grabber. The other color combinations, like the yellow and green grabber in the brochure never show the rear panel.

I know a legit early unmolested Comet GT with the grabber blue with white/silver stripes that had a black rear panel.

I am on board with it matching the stripes (it seems to flow better, for sure), but then what about the guys that say the grill and tail were both black, regardless of the stripe color, which sort of violates what the brochure 'hints' to. I am not looking to point fault, but rather just some official documentation, if such exists.

1970 Grabbers had a black tail-light panel only. Side stripes were either black or white. Hood stripes were always black.

1971-1972 Grabbers had different stripe colors. There was all black and there was two tone. Black with orange, two shades of green, yellow with red, etc. The rear of the car was painted either painted black to match the black side stripes, or on colored stripes was painted one of the colors in the side stripes.

All Comet GT's that I have seen all had a black tail panel regardless of the side stripe color.

I would agree with others that white would look pretty good on the tail panel if the side stripes are white.

    All Grabbers had black grills.

    Hope this helps.

Yes, that was very very helpful. Thanks.

White back panel is probably the way we are heading. Regardless of white being incorrect, a black rear panel just doesnt fit as well as a white one would

Have seen a lot of grabbers through the years and have never seen a white tail panel, thought they were all black if they weren't the color of the car. but I'm not saying you shouldn't paint yours whatever color you want
