Lol I looked them up, Crane Energizer Roller Rockers $240.00 a set at Summit Racing, I guess I got a pretty good deal, heads are close to $600.00 each and the Tremec 3550 5 speed, yeah I'm good with that deal.
Edelbrock heads aren't specific for 302s or 351s. The same head fits both engines. Those look like the old 4-digit Edelbrock heads, at least 10 years old. The newer design Edelbrocks have a 5-digit casting number. I have the Tremec T5Z in mine and it's held up to a nitroused 347 without problem. As mentioned above, the crossmember mounting pad on the T5 is 1 1/2" farther rearward than a TopLoader or C4 so you need to do some fabbing there. In my small tunneled 70 I had to open up the top of the tunnel to clear the shift rod tube.
Yeah I was just meaning they were drilled for the 351w bolts, I had to have my current heads drilled out for my 351w, not expensive but just a pain, Now on the Tremec 3550, has Frank came up with a crossmember for the 71 and up yet? also what bell housing did you use, I have both the original and my SFI Scattersheild that is on my toploader 4 speed now, did you have to modify the input shaft length any?
I don't know why I wanna keep saying t5, it is a 3550, same design as the TKO just 10 spline input and 28 spline output shafts.
The 3550 is a very good trans, I think it is rated at 350 hp but that is conservative. It can be made into a TKO by changing output shafts, there are write-ups on this, was even in Modified Mustangs and Fords earlier this year. I was putting one in the 70 I sold to Ray(Razorsharp), now Ray gets to enjoy the fun. It was going to require the tunnel to be raised. I don't believe your scatter shield is going to work, they have different bolt patterns and the input shaft is longer unless you got lucky and it has the short input shaft, they did make them but they came out later to accommodate people like us.
So do you think the original bell housing will work then? my SFI has multiple hole for mounting various transmissions to various engines, I understand the 3550 has a longer input shaft and may not work with the SFI for that reason, but there is an adapter plate you can purchase or a shorter input shaft can also be bought, I would rather it bolt right in and I thought with the original bell housing, that would be the case, the input shaft end is even with the bells block mounting surface.
I could be wrong but I think it will not fit your bellhousing, I pretty sure that the bolt pattern is different. In an earlier post some one stated that the 3550/TKO were based on the toploader, I don't see how. Looks like you have the right bellhousing for the trans but it is not a blow proof/scatter shield. You actually stole that stuff. Nice buy and it should last a long time.
