Where would you put the BMW sensor? and does anyone know what threads it has? Where would you tap for the sensor if you were me and had this setup? the only place i had available on my intake is taken by my water temp gauge. Thanks for the help guys
i suppose! the setup ive researched the most has been the volvo relary->BMW sensor-> taurus/fordscort fan. Plus i already have the BMW sensor.
The reason for using the BMW sensor is that it uses two temperature ranges, so when the engine hits 180 degrees then it kicks on the low speed fan, but when the engine hits 210 degrees it kicks on the high speed fan. The easiest thing you can do is use one of the coolant crossovers on your intake manifold, or if you have a sensor port on your thermostat housing. One thing you must be aware of though is the BMW sensor will not just screw in. It is a metric thread it uses a M14 x 1.5mm thread you can get an standard 3/8" NPT to 1/8" NPT adapter and drill it out with a 12.5 MM drill (it works out to .4921 inches so you can use a 1/2" drill with little to no problem)and tap it for the metric thread.
thanks! i have one on the intake but it is occupied by my temp sender for my gauge. I may just have to buy a water neck similar to yours that has a sensor port. There is this port on my intake . Think it may work?
Yeah that is the simplest solution I have found, that is a 5.0 filler neck and it requires a different upper radiator hose. I haven't been around for a little while, nasty divorce, being left as a single dad with 3 kids. Between that and picking up a new job teaching machining at the tech school hasnt given me much time to be on lately. But I'm getting ready to start full force again.
So i got the dilemma figured out. Im going to tap into a new thermostat housing i picked up. However, i have another question. Which contact on the sensor is for high temp and which is low temp?
your lucky, i couldn't find a 180* one.. i kept finding the higher one which i think is like 195 for low...got 2 of those sitting around due to the fact i need one for the comet & one for the chevelle. also do you have the factory plug in for it? i can't remember off hand which color is which but if you google the colors and the switch it should tell you.
"0" is ground T1 is temp 1 T2 is temp 2 If you simple Google "BMW dual temp switch", "Taurus fan conversion", "Taurus 2 speed fan", etc, you will get all the info you need to perform the conversion. Good luck! Here is a good source: http://www.nastyz28.com/forum/showthread.php?t=200028
