Like I said...you can't go by on how many leafs are in a spring to know the spring rate. A 76 3 leaf spring has 779 lb. load rate and a 70 4-leaf has 535 lb. The 3-leaf is 244 lb. more than the 4 leaf.

    70 2-door 3-leaf - 535 lb.
    70 2-door H/D 4-leaf - 535 lb.

    71 2-door 3-leaf - 660 lb.
    71 2-door H/D 4-leaf - 708 lb.
    71 4-door 3-leaf -579 lb.
    71 4-door H/D 3-leaf - 595 lb.

    72 2-door 3-leaf - 660 lb.
    72 2-door H/D 4-leaf - 708 lb.
    72 4-door 3-leaf - 579 lb.
    72 4-door H/D 3-leaf 595 lb.

    73 2-door 3-leaf - 660 lb.
    73 2-door H/D 4-leaf 708 lb.
    73 4-door 3-leaf - 609 lb.
    73 4-door 3-leaf - 595 lb.

74-77 is not broke down on how many doors or if it's heavy duty or standard. I would bet by throwing a hundred pound bumper on the end will call for a stronger spring.

    74 3 leaf 634 lb.
    74 3 leaf 662 lb.
    74 3 leaf 688 lb.
    74 4 leaf 709 lb.
    74 4 leaf 715 lb.
    74 4 leaf 781 lb.
    75 3 leaf 662 lb.
    75 3 leaf 677 lb.
    75 3 leaf 688 lb.
    75 4 leaf 689 lb.
    75 3 leaf 703 lb.
    75 4 leaf 709 lb.
    75 4 leaf 715 lb.
    75 4 leaf 730 lb.
    75 3 leaf 734 lb.
    75 4 leaf 742 lb.
    75 4 leaf 746 lb.
    75 4 leaf 781 lb.
    75 4 leaf 795 lb.
    75 4 leaf 807 lb.
    76 3 leaf 720 lb.
    76 3 leaf 750 lb.
    76 3 leaf 779 lb.
    76 4 leaf 790 lb.
    76 4 leaf 855 lb.
    77 3 leaf 720 lb.
    77 3 leaf 750 lb.
    77 3 leaf 779 lb.
    77 4 leaf 790 lb.
    77 4 leaf 855 lb.

Like I said, It was part of the option package, the sales brochure doesnt go on about spring rate, you got what Ford gave you.

I ordered 4 leaf on my Stallion. Rides like every other Maverick I have owned.

It sure makes it a lot easier with these calculations for me to order a set now. Thanks Jeff.

There must be quite a variance in the spring rate and arch of the 4-leaf setups, as mine sat pretty darn level with 4-leafs and 1/4 coil taken out of the front.

I am not looking for a place that offers all of these options. All I have to do now is find a place that has a 4 leaf for a 71.

Thanks guys. General Spring is $109.95 per side and Melvin's is $179.95 for a pair. I have put a a email in to Melvin's asking the rating of their set.

Make sure you check to see how much shipping is in addition to the cost. ESPO quoted me $58 for shipping to Florida.

I have 4 leaf on my 73 Comet 2dr. When I had my springs re-arched, I had them add a 4th leaf. I'm using KYB shocks all around. I feel the 4th leaf will keep it from sagging over the years. Rides great....

I have Gen. 4leafs on my car. I had to remove the bottom leaf, @808 lbs rating, they rode like a 1ton truck. I removed the bottom leaf after riding on them abt 3 yrs. Removing the leaf was one of the best suspension changes I have made to date; may be one of the best upgrades I have done to the car PERIOD! I only wish I had done it sooner "much sooner".
I am not the only one who had to make this change. The car rides a lot better; but, if I had to do it again I wud be more aware of spring ratings. When I purchased the units I did not have the info. I have now and was just getting back in the car hobby. I can't see any need for 808lb rated springs for these cars..

Thanks Everett. I have also been told that I should just add another leaf to my 3 weak springs since it is much cheaper.
