I've only had one person try and talk smack about my car to my face, but he was sitting in a clapped out, 94-ish GMC 2wd reg cab long bed work truck with the paint peeling off everywhere and bald tires, so I think that disqualified all automotive opinion that came out of his mouth.

How many out there have had someone at a car gathering look your car over and then tell you they had one JUST LIKE IT ?? Or theirs came with a factory installed 351 with a 4-BBL Carb. and a four-speed on the floor .. Or a dual quad setup ... etc. etc. I find it's easier to just " let em' go with it " .. I have asked them for any Pictures they might have of their car .. I have one dude tell me that he had a Maverick with a built 351 and when he first drove it .. He
"launched" it and the wheels came off the ground three feet in the air for about 40 feet ..and it scared him so bad that he just pulled it into a 7-11 , walked away , and sold the car .. I've heard some really wild adventure stories..

I won't give two shakes for what others say. I like them and know exactly what they are. That's good enough for me.

IMO, If you get upset or angry with what others say or think, you bought the wrong car.

[IMG] What I found pretty damn pride swelling  is the guy that called me the other day from 300 miles away in Tennessee that saw my Craig's list ad for my grad mother in laws 93 Taurus, but just happen to notice the maverick in the background and wanted to buy it lol, I gave him some ridiculous amount to buy it even though its a roller at the moment, then he just wanted to talk about it and his 68 Cougar :vomito: lol

'Never had mine referred to as a Camaro, but I've been asked if it was a Mustang, and if it was a Javelin.

I get pissed if anyone refers to it as a "Pinto", not that I have anything against Pintos, but because it's not even in the same category. Yeah, the Pinto got the Maverick's taillights, but that's it.

I wanted to comment on this, because while it's 100% true, my feeling on the subject is that I don't get mad just because someone doesn't like Mavericks/Comets; I just can't stand stupidity. Many people hate Mavericks strictly out of bigotry, with no actual knowledge about the car or it's potential. That's what gets Me steamed.

One guy told me " hey that's a nice Vega". I then told him " I should kick you in the nuts for that comment". He then said " I didn't realize it was a Maverick from that far away".

I've had more than a few conversations with adjacent cars at a stop light where they'll ask " What YEAR ?" .. It's clear they have no idea what Brand of car I'm driving or the Make .. I usually toss it back .. It's a '74 .. what year is yours?
If I sense they have an honest interest in the car .. I'll be more forthcoming and volunteer .. "It's a Comet " and THAT
generally opens the door to the next question .. It's a WHAT ?? Then I have to explain its a Mercury Comet made by the FORD Motor Company .. etc. etc. All it All ... so far I've encountered folks that are generally "positive" and not rude .
