I was thinking just take the Mustang platform, shorten it a tad, add new (but retro, mav-like) styling, w/ a 3.5L V6 standard, the new 5.0L modular V8, or a 5.4L V8 as options.

Neat videos... My car is even in a few of them...

As far a a new Maverick, Ford would screw it up by making it a Focus clone car as the rustang platform is to expensive to make an economy car out of it.

You have to consider what niche will it fit into. Ford can't support multiple pony cars any more. So it would have to be downstream from the Stang. But the Stang is pretty affordable so not much hope. It would be cool if it could be lighter with rear wheel drive and the Eco Boost six or four cylinders. But Ford would fear it would cannibalize Mustang sales (And it would). And I think there would be almost no chance it would be offered in 2 door form :(

I don't think there will ever again be a time when a rainbow of performance will be offered like we had in 69-71... Lets remember them....

    Torino.
    Mustang.
Maverick. :burnout: If I had a hat it would be off right now......

All were basically the same type of car. Just depended on what suited your style and budget.

Wow, I never even saw this first page in posts. At any rate, lots of good discussion here. As for the design here, I gotta appreciate what your son put into it, as it is a good look, however, for a new Mav/Comet, I'm not too keen on it. It looks too much(as others have said), like what we have out there now. My sister has a Focus, and I can't help but see her car in that pic.

Then again, maybe I'm too old school, in wanting to see a remake of the original design. Or how about, if it were to come out in 2009, leave the body design, but move the gas tank location(we don't want another Pinto situation) to the left/right side. Then, in 2010, once the younger gen drivers are re-introduced to the Mav family, they could tweak the body style.

    Maybe?

Good, point and I doubt any V-8 will willingly fit in the new focus, I have seen Windsors in the older styles though. If they used the focus for a retro themed project, it would be the 2011 Pinto 40th aniversary edition. :biglaugh:

come back with the 5.0 and a maverick...beats the mustang and make it look cool...most members would say no but i say i would have to design it

my god will you look at the past.....what did ford have back then....so they had the galexie, mustang, (maverick cough cough), torino, cyclone, cougar, comet (early), and thats about it
    and it still is today!!!

christler has the charger, cuda, challenger, roadrunner, and a bunch more

dont get me started on GM

ford needs a car that will drive people insain and make me want one...look how manycars made it to our present day....mustang....thats all thats left

Go check my thread... I mounted the Mav body on a MN12 platform (91-92 Thunderbird) ... Everything on that platform was super sexy for my project... It will have an IRS... Hopefully I'll even be able to transplant the airbags as everything on my daily driver (a 94 t-bird) will be transplanted onto the Mav... That's why I did it this way... I wanted a modern engine, electronics and drivetrain with the look of a classic 70's musclecat... It'll be unbolting things from the donor and then bolting them back onto the Mav in reverse order. ..

The Focus name is getting old. They could restyle the Focus to have some vintage Maverick design. Call it a Maverick. There could be a two door, four door, Grabber ST. Grabber SVT. Marketable world wide. Very different form the vintage car but still a fun affordable car.

No they shouldn't. Why would Ford do that? Around here it was viewed as a rusty cheap grocery getter that got no respect at the time. Even though we like them it would be like trying to market the Chevette or Pinto name again.
