Try soaking them with "PB Blaster", heat them up with with a cheap plumber's propane torch and a cheater bar.
I did change most when I replaced my shocks and control arms last fall, but there are a few still in there I def need to change yes! Thanks, I'll try that then.
Do Do you have disc brakes? If so check to see all the' anti rattle' clips are in place. Calipers won't make a noise sitting still, but going down the road they will. JM2C
i have the same problem where something in the front end was rattling, but i rebuilt it just last summer. it only rattles on rough roads and low speed bumps but not when i hit pot holes and such. like 2 pieces of metal jumping around together. today i bought moog polyurethane links and installed and still rattles. grabber-1 was right, when i push the brake in the rattle stops.
thanks guys, I should finish checking the Stabilizers today, if the noise remains, I'll then go that way! Cheers!
So after changing the sway bar links, lower control arms, bushings and balljoints all around, shocks, as I was there I also replaced my power cylinder, did a bit of maintenance... And the noise is still there... I keep looking, would it be in the breaks? Take them appart, all good... So where does this noise come from? It's driving me crazy, the good thing is all of what I've done while looking to solve this issue was needed anyway. And today, while finishing some maintenance around my carb, I go to put the air cleaner unit back on and when I go to link the pipe cercled in red in the linked pic, I realise it's linked to a metal tube and metal plate which are losse... Making that metal noise I've been hearing all along... So my new question is this, this part is loose not because of its attachment points which are tight but only because it's old and rusty. Should I just get rid of it or should I replace it for that pipe to go in? (I actually have no clue of the use of that part as on my previous car I had a very simple air cleaner unit with nothing attached to it). Thanks again for all the tips, pointers and help anyway!
That ducting is for the Thermactor, which is an emissions-control system. It heats the air going into the carburetor for a faster warm-up. Strut-rod bushings could be worn out, or the nuts could be loose where they attach to the lower control arms.
ok, I see now how it would do that as it kind of collects heat from the exhaust. But doing so it does not attach to the lower control arm, there are only 2 screws on top straight into the block and that's it. And those are tight. It ratles from being kinda weak and corroded I think? What is the name of it so I could buy a new one please? Once again, attached a photo just in case I'm wrong about it. Thanks again Larry, way to teach me all I need to know about my Comet
Mostly the pipe is to prevent stalling/stumbling/bogging when cold as carbs were leaned significantly during the '70s... The V8 guys tossed them and stuck on a performance or sometimes earlier carb, problem solved...
I was trying to answer two separate questions. That is called a heat stove. Unless you have visual emissions inspections where you live, I'd toss it. Only place you're gonna get another one is a junkyard.
Ha! now I get it, seams I red it too fast. I'll check the stud rod but almost everything upper or lower copntrol arm etc... down there has been replaced within the last couple of months. I will then take it out (and keep it for now) and see if I have warming up issues, also knowing I live in SoCal my engine rarelly starts in cold cold temperatures! Thanks guys for the advices and "little things" about those cars.
A while back I had a knocking noise coming from the front right while driving. I had it checked out and was told the idler arm was bad. I had had it replaced and the noise was gone.
thanks, I'll check it for safety but I think i've finally located the sound, now up to geting rid of it!
