My wife didn't want to drive my Comet around on greasy city streets when it had the 4.62 gear.
She did however, want to drive it at our really-well-prepped drag strip where she knew it would get traction.... :thumbs2:

The lack of power assist steering wasn't even a consideration.

I'd settle for driving it anywhere soon .... sigh .... not too much more work until then ....

A bunch of years ago a '68 Galaxie 500XL was featured in one of the automotive rags that was 428, 4-speed and had all the bells and whistles, P/B, A/C, power windows, etc but no P/S... Owner who ordered it new flatly stated "I didn't want the wife to drive it"...

I've seen a special ordered, stripped '69 LTD that was three on tree, had brakes as only power assist... Guy who ordered(one of my customers) it didn't trust/want the power assists... He also had a '67 Falcon 2dr sdn that was 289 & three on tree, also without any power assists...

There's really no problem. But there is more to the story.
My wife needed another car to get her around. When my wife tried driving the Maverick she was 8 months pregnant and the strain on her steering the car was what made her concerned. She was told not to carry heavy things or strain herself due to reasons that some women may miscarry the baby. She also complained that the engine power was to much for her and thought it would be safer to go with a modern car.
She bought herself a nice modern car that has power steering.

I only drove my 69.5 Maverick once to bring it home many years ago - it had a manual box and it was very easy to steer

Yep...that's the secret you got to be rolling if you want the wheels to turn easily. Skinny tires up front helps a lot too

I just remembered that Shelby America installed power steering gear boxes, designed with decreased lock-to-lock travel on all 1965 GT 350s which were spec'd from Ford with manual steering.

Well I see it's a 11 to 11 tie, that really helps with decision making... :yup::disagree:

Since I have P/S and plan on keeping it, I didn't vote...

Our old '70 had power steering but the '71 has manual. I like power steering, but not enough to change my current Maverick over to it.
