All sanded back and ready for painting, matte black i think. Not a bad way to spend overtime at work, might wait til thursday over time to paint it
It is tedious. Washed mine in the tub with warm to hot water and mild dish soap. I used a green scotch pad for scrubbing it with. Seems to have worked. But it has not seen the elements since lol. Been almost three years. http://mmb.maverick.to/attachments/painted-grill-jpg.51559/
That looks great, i was thinking of doing the silver outline to, but i think i might just do the 3 GT bars in the middle
Looks great, how did you paint the silver? Was thinking about a roller of sum sort to paint the silver on mine.
Hawkeye: Have you considered the adhesive chrome trim that they sell in a good paint and body shop ? You may be able to find something close to the proper size , or they sell chrome " door edge guard" that might be useful. Just a thought. Cometized ( Chip )
I used Mar-Hyde Black Satin Automotive Trim Coating in can to do mine. http://smegnl.medina.oh.us/index.php/maverick/59-grille
I thought i might try and do it Blugene style and paint it by hand. Don't know if my hands are steady enough, but a couple of beers should help with that
I would definitely use Trim paint on it .... it is UV resistant. I used that on my DD Explorer for the panel that is between the side windows and it looked good 5 years later. It is out in the Florida weather full-time, too. I painted my Comet grille black but made the three center bars silver ... like a Comet GT. I painted the silver first, and masked the bars off (1/4 inch tape I think, I might have cut my own, too .... been a while). Spray that silver .... you will never be happy with it if done by hand. It would show all the brush marks, and it is more reflective if you spray it. Let the silver dry for days, too before masking. Setting it in the sun to heat it a bit would be good for it too.
