I know a few members here have done the York to the Saden 508 air conditioning compressor conversions on their cars. I would like to pick your brain for some info. I tried the search feature on the forum but did not have any luck finding the info I needed.
I have a couple of questions. I know you can use the original main bracket that bolts to the head still and buy the adapter plate to allows you to bolt the Saden compressor to the original main bracket. My question is would you still need to use the idler/tensioner bracket and pulley set up or will that be deleted.
Are there other main mounting bracket options available that will eliminate the need for the idler/tensioner bracket. I am doing this on a 351W block. Any feed back and info you can give me is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

I have seen systems with an idler pulley. I have also seen systems that the compressor "pivots" and this is the way you tension the belt.

There are also aftermarket pulley and bracket systems that allows you to put the AC compressor wherever you want.

Thanks Craig for the reply. I am looking for something as you noted that, "the compressor pivots to adjust tension" type bracket/mounting style. The 351W motor will not have any power steering pump mounted/needed and I would like to eliminate the tensioner bracket for the AC too if possible. There will only be the AC compressor pulley, alternator pulley, water pump pulley and the harmonic balancer pulley actually used. Do they make a bracket that will mount the air conditioning compressor where the power steering pump would be/use to be? Would there be header clearance issues?
I will go to Summits website and Classic Airs website to see what pulley and bracket options they have. I did not want to get into buying a complete bracket and pulley system if not needed from some one like March or some other manufacturer unless I really had to as a last option.

    Thanks

March is who came to mind on the other bracket system.

Thanks guys for your feed back.

I am will be using a V belt type system and I have found the mounting bracket the eliminates the the tensioner bracket that pivots the way Craig referenced and allows you to use the Saden 508 compressor. I know Earl is running a set up on his that is after market but still allowed him to run Top Rangers Monte Carlo bar. I would like to find out more about his set up, but due to his father just passing. I have held off sending him any messages or asking any questions pertaining to this. He has a lot of other things more important to deal with this. This can wait a little while for an answer.

    Thanks

Everett think you misunderstood what I said. I think Earl used the standard MC bar on his car with an aftermarket AC unit. Bob has not come out with a MC bar for cars with air. I would like to know or see how Earl got his AC unit mounted so he could do that.

I was not aware Earl had aftermarket AC. I did misunderstand you - my bad. I met Earl at the Dearborn RU a few years ago, can't recall his AC setup. Do you have factory AC?

That is just my understanding Everett from what I have read on Earl's car, that he has an aftermarket air set up and he is also able to run teh Monte Carlo Bar that Top Ranger (Bob) offers

As far as mine goes, it is a factory air car but I am trying to find a way to keep air and be able to use the Monte Carlo Bar from Top Ranger too. I still need to buy the bracket, the compressor and the lines. I have been holding off on buying them till I hopefully can find away to do it before I commit to buying those parts.

Here is a pic of Earl's setup. The AC bracket came off Frank's 347. It's a custom made mount to drop the compressor lower in the engine bay.

Well Allen, Jeff just gave u the answer to ur question. Looks like a custom AC bracket is in ur future. Earl ran his hose very similar to mine. Maybe Frank has some details on that bracket and cud save u some research. From the pix in the above post the bracket don't seem to be much lower than my setup.

That's a great looking setup Frank! What was the reason for mounting it lower? I think I used most of the stock setup and the mounting bracket additions came w/ kit from Classic AC.
