Hello all, I'm about to change my '77 mav instrument cluster as the original just became white powder like it happened to many member of this forum, I got an old style instrument cluster from a '72 mav and I already have the pinout configuration for the quick connector, I also have the old style plastic connector base as the newer style ( I think from late 73's) is different from this and already removed the cables and pins from it, I'll find out the cable configuration from the '77 connector in order to place all the pins in the right order onto the old plastic base; as soon as I finish the job I will write a tutorial for anybody who need to do the same :)

Other than the cost of the gauges. It only ran me about 30 bucks. And got to do away with the idiot lights

There is a difference in the way the dummy lights are wired too. If I remember right the older ones have a separate light for oil pressure and water temp. The newer ones only had an engine light. This is a 75 or 76 I think.
    Only an engine light.

Mines a 72 and it had separate lights one for oil temp brake and alt.
I'm only going to use the brake one because I put in a temp gauge sender in my radiator hose. And a sandwich plate on my oil filter for the pressure gauge and didn't need the alt light because I got a volt gauge

GPS is the way to go...more so if you change tire sizes allot or want to go with a newer trans that usually requires a vss..which you wont need now due to GPS

you can get a 3 3/8 speedo with a tach built in too

Started with a plastic barrel and traced my factory cluster on it. Cut it out and drew my gauges where I wanted em 20150303_190902.jpg then I got it all cut out
And put some gauge pods in

Threw some screws in to hold the pods in the angle I wanted em in. Then Spray foamed the back to add some girth and strength to it
