What manifold can I get away with on my 302, I'm running a Holley carb and don't want to have to cut the hood for a scoop or cowl. I would like to keep everything under the hood. Planning on eventually running a fairly stout pump gas friendly street\strip roller 347. Cheers.

About the only thing that won't fit is a Parker funnel web. I ran my 3x2 setup under the hood before adding spacers and a 3-1/2" K&N to it after cutting a hole under the Boss 9 hood scoop.

    I put a 302 in my 70 maverick, performer 289 intake and a 500cfm carburetor...there is 4-1/4" inches of clearance

I was thinking a Performer RPM or even a Torker II.

I use a low rise air cleaner on my Dodge truck it give a lot more clearance than a regular air cleaner for the Maverick I am using a Shaker Hood air cleaner

a performer rpm air gap is the tallest ive fit with a holley carb, drop base air cleaner and a flat air cleaner top. also was able to fit a nitrous plate in.

Those will fit. The Vic Jr's problem is the carb pad isn't canted to compensate for the engine's installed angle, like most other intakes, making the aircleaner top's front edge higher than the rear. Aircleaner choice(filter height too) comes into play more than the intake does with intakes that have the carb pad canted towards the front.

You never want to use a smaller air filter if you can avoid it,ones that are not as tall restrict air flow, robbing you of the xtra power you seek.

Vic Jr. fits just fine. I've got one in my car with a 1/2" Nitrous plate also. I use a drop base filter with a 3" element and one of those K&N filter lids. Fits under my grabber hood perfectly.
