I am looking for a picture of a lokar throttle cable attached to a 1972 or older gas pedal. I have received the cable but was wondering if there is any modifications required to make the cable work?

    Thank,
    Tom

I could not get the '71 to work. I used a '74. They use different mounting styles. You might be able to graft part of a '89+ Mustang pedal to the '72. I considered doing that before I found the '74.

What about build a link between the cable and the gas pedal? An oval piece of flat metal with 2 holes in it. Almost like a link in a chain.

If I recall correctly, I disassembled the Lokar cable to remove the standard Clevis. This left a crimped ball on the end of the cable. I then placed the small plastic piece from the stock Maverick cable over the cable and reassembled the Lokar cable.

The early gas pedal ran up through 72. There was a design change at that point, and 73-on got the later style. The early ones were trouble waiting to happen, those crimped ends would fail. My car was stranded for three days in the mid-1990s while I searched for a good cable. Most of the ones I found were bad repair attempts. Ford used this design on several models 70-72, and then switched.

I swore it it happened again, I was going to switch to the later style pedal. It just looks like a much better design. Food for thought ....

I have a 70 and just heated the metal rod for the pedal with a torch and turned it 90 degrees. worked perfect.
