I got a set for a friend and he gave them back. Said they didn't fit and we're too shiny. I layed my 72 kick panel on top and they seem to be too high. It's keeping them from pushing back tight again the door jamb. The pic shows the extra legnth sticking out past the factory panel. It's about a half inch.
They look like they are going to fit my Maverick. What is the part number on the back of your kick panels? Mine is a D1DZ number. I do know that I will have to drill the Top screw hole on the flange because the 70 Maverick does not have this screw on the hinge post ('A' post). As far as being too shiny...paint the sucker or knock the shine off with a worn out green scrub pad.
I already put mine back in the car, but I have another set, D3DB. They look the same as the ones in my 72. I know that is a 73 part number but it isn't for the glove box model, it has the "flag".
Curiosity got the best of me so I pulled the ones out of the Sprint that are I the first pic. They are D3DB and are exactly the same as the D3DB set that I have. Was the D1DZ the part used as a pattern for these?
See post #7 in this thread on what kick panel was used to make the mold. I do know they were several different kick panels made in the 8 year span of the Maverick production. The 69.5-early didn't have a flange, some 70-71 didn't have a top screw, some 72's the lower screw holes were higher on the kick panel. Some kick panels have a casting mark to show where to cut and mount speaker grille and some didn't. The foot parking brake models were different than the hand parking brake models. I'm sure I left out some other details between the differences. I'm going out on a limb here but my guess is your kick panels being a D3DB were to be used for thicker LDO plush carpet. I made a typo on the part number and I can't blame a fat fingering the keyboard. Correct number is D1DB...not D1DZ.
Here's some more info for you. My 1970 has D0DB (that's a zero) and these panels are EXACT matches down to the screw holes. Also, shoot them with some matte or flat clear and you're good .
I got around cutting speaker grille holes my new kick panels today and installing the panels. Being my Maverick is a '74...I knew I had to punch new holes in the sheet metal to use the '71 screw hole locations that were in the reproduction kick panel. I didn't want to drill a hole and have the drill bit grab the carpet...learned that lesson 45+ years ago, so I used a scratch awl and hammer to poke the new screw holes. Punching a hole leave more metal for the trim screw to hold on to than having a drilled hole. It appears the 73-74 and maybe 75 panels are 1/2" shorter than the 70-72 panels like Don stated in post #16 and #22. This extra 1/2" at the bottom of the panel did not cause me any problem installing the panels on my '74.
