How hard would it be to add a rear window defogger in a 73 mav that didnt come with one? Someone said the windows like to fog up alot so I figured I would check into it.

Is your Mav a daily driver where you will be driving in the cold, rainy weather? I'm from Vancouver and when I was using my 74 Comet as a daily driver, the factory rear defogger at best would clear an area just enough to see through and would take forever. IMO, it was a POS as with any of those fan driven units back then. If you really want a rear defogger/defroster, go with one of those aftermarket electric versions, where you can apply the grid, much like what are on vehicles today. That is what I end up doing and worked great, especially in the winter, snow, ice etc.....
If you really want to install the factory rear defogger, the cutout/mounting is already there, so along with locating the unit, you would also have to find the factory control switch/face plate as it is different than one without the rear defogger option. I believe Auto Krafters have the rear package tray with provisions for the rear defogger. Not sure about the factory wiring, whether or not the extra single wire for the rear defog is on all harnesses. Along with locating the unit, have to make sure it comes with the plastic grid face plate.
Not too difficult to install, you probably will have more difficult time trying to locate all the correct parts!

Wouldn't the grid defroster cause any tint on the rear window to bubble?

Power is a single wire of the accessory terminal. You could get away with a remote switch rather than trying to find a faceplate. They are very difficult to find with the slot for the demister.

Install is fairly simple. If your rear shelf is in bad condition, this would be a good time to replace it.

I'm guessing you have the black interior. I have a factory rear window defogger, with everything you need to install. I'll get some pictures up soon. I was going to install it in my 70 Grabber. But, I sold the car.

Here are a couple of pictures of the defogger. Notice there are no broken tabs. Price if interested $100. Will need zip code for shipping quote.
