shackle bolts?

so im putting in some new shackles and leaf springs with shocks. how tight do i need to tighten the shackle bolts? ive went right to the point of bending them, but not bent yet, but im pretty sure it is bottomed out on the stud threads. cant go any further if i wanted to. the rubber mounts inside are greased very well and are slightly buldging out of the ends due to tightness, but nothing extreme.

so is this too tight or just right?

 

that's how they're designed. the nut will bottom out, and that's it, you're good to go.

 

ok thats what i needed to know. ill do the other side the same way until it bottoms. ty sir!!

 

Be careful not to over torque, they will snap...don't ask why I know this

Well, you see there is only so much thread before it bottoms out

 

If you turn the nut until it stops, you can't go past that and there is no reason to try. Doesn't require a lot of torque to run the nuts down to the end of the threads.

 

Shop manual says anywhere between 18-29 ft. lbs.

 

thanks all. i just ran them down to the end of the threads. was a bit stiff feeling was all i was concerned about.
