    So ok I give up on trying to find any original or aftermarket louvers...I get it! there are NONE! But that being said, has any one found one that is close enough to modify to fit? maybe a mustang II ?

    I think a 70-71 Torino would be a close match if anything :huh: the rear end of the Torino and maverick share somewhat similar lines (especially aroud the trunk and window) however the Torino is massive compared to the maverick? There possibly just as hard to find! Torinos aren't a popular car with the after market (ask me how I know :banghead:) But its worth a look!

    i have seen three for sale on here in the last few years... this is how i got my set. i guess patience and money are the key factors :D

    The Torino's louver would require massive amounts of work and you'd eventually end up with whatevere would be left over to fit our cars narrower and shorter glass. Plus the lower slat needs to be removable or designed to allow the entire louver to flip up for rear trunk access.

    I really like this version and plan on eventually making my own out of AL. I dig the design because each one juts outward on the sides to give a more stylish 3 dimensional look.

    Tru dat. I payed $900 for mine over 20 years ago. I'd bet small cash that you probably couldn't find a decent set worth fooling around with for under $1,500 these days.

    Would be considerably cheaper to make them yourself and pay someone to TIG them all together for you. Owning a TIG setup makes these types of deals much cheaper to build since the metal prices are pretty cheap. Making the lowest slat removable in discreet fashion or better yet allowing the entire frame to tilt up with a prop rod would likely be one of the bigger mod's required to make these things more functional.

    Eric(Acornridgeman) bought a pair here off the forum 2 1/2 months ago for $120. The girl selling them had no idea they were worth waaay more.

    That is not quite true. Once shipping and packing was figured in it was more like $200 and she did know they were worth more, just wanted to see them go back to the Maverick community at a decent price. Lori was very good to work with and I was very fortunate to get them. I like to think it was the good karma coming back to me for the 100's of NOS parts I have sold in the last 10 years to board members at prices way lower than ebay could have given me.

    This winter I will be starting a project that may result in a way to remake these, but as with most Maverick items, the 10 to 20 that would be sold makes the price per item so high it just never gets off paper. This isn't the Mustang world here - there are just too few of us. :(

    Unfortunately that is the truth with these cars...but if you are able to reproduce these for around $500 I know at least 3 people in my area who would want them!

    I guess I am lucky enough to own two sets of these louvers. One set I got about 20 years ago, sold the car with them on it, the car got totaled and I bought the whole car back with them still on it for parts just so I had them.
    I had been looking for a second set for years and had seen two or three sets go up for sell but was always a little late to the show to get them. I finally ran across another set that a forum member had and was selling and got them for a real deal.
    That set is for my car, the other set I let my son keep on his car, but he can never sell them with out my blessing. Patience is the key to getting these and being at the right place at the right time. I know of about 8 sets total that I have seen pop up here on the forum over the last 13 years that I have been on here. You might just get lucky and see a set pop up for sell. I am sure there are more than the 8 sets still out there that I know of. It is just a matter of finding them and talking the person into selling them. I know the price of these just keeps climbing.
    Some people like them some don't, but I do not think there will ever be any made and offered up for sale. As some one previously said the demand for them is no where close to being great enough to warrant the initial cost to set up and fabricate unless you have the tools, know how to lay them out and fabricate.
    I wish you luck in your venture to locate some. I think they make the car look good if the period look is what you are going for.

    I have a set that I bought from JC Whitney about 25 years ago. I am thinking about putting them on my Maverick. I haven't decided yet.

    If you have had them for 25 years and still have not put them on...you can do without them, I will take them off of your hands!!! ( Just kidding....if you want to sell them I will take them)

    Regardless of how new those slats may be that would be the deal breaker for me. I know alot of guys like them anyways.. but to me they look like they're broken without the bottom slat in place.

    Course.. adding one more slat to an existing design would be tons less work than starting from scratch.

    I think there is a gap of about the width of one slat at the bottom.
