hi, i have my 74 comet 5.0L fuel injected. i have dual 2.25 exhaust with glass packs. i need to install really quiet performance exhaust. i just went through the ordeal of getting my 08 ram quiet enough to pass our local laws.
i have to be under 60db at 30 feet... i am going to add some kind of h pipe and then change out the glass packs. any ideas?
    thanks

you can get one of those tunable mufflers. they're a little pricy but you can pass inspection and then just open them up and make it loud again :rofl2::rofl2:
i know bbk makes a manual one (called the Varatune i think) and i know someone makes one with electric motors....

but if you wanna just leave it quiet pretty much any turbo style muffler will do the trick. just a reminder glass packs are loud, so anything more then that will yield a significant improvement.

what they made you change the exhaust on an 08? what was on it? something other than stock? if it was stock I wouldve gave em a middle finger and said go away its factory you cant make me change it

since you know the db rating it sounds like you got a smartass cop that pulled you over already.

theres NO way I could pass that for sure I prolly need twice that distance to consider passing. I have about 4 inches from header to glass pack then a right turn to come out in front of the wheels with a 3" pipe :party5: needless to say myneighbors love it when I go in and out of my court setting off anyones alarm that might be on:biglaugh:

No way you would ever be able to get under 60db! That is the same level as a normal conversation or a sewing machine. The North Little Rock ordinance says 78db - 2.5.6 Motor Vehicle and Motorcycle Sound limit.

When I had a crossover installed it seems to have decreased the exhaust volume.

Get a set of take off mufflers from a newer Mustang, they obviously flow enough for good power and are quite. There's always the Z06 mufflers, they have a loud valve that you can activate for more sound.

well i think i figured out what i am going to do... cutoff the glasspacks, install dual 23in 4in dia resonators, dual dynomax vt mufflers, and an h pipe. that should do it.

That setup should be plenty quiet and flow plenty well (y)
