If the following items will fit a Maverick as I got a deal is only reason I bought them, parts are from a 88 Mustang GT unless stated otherwise, full read end, drive shaft, full exhaust system with shorty headers, 3 speed with OD from a 83 GT, full front sub frame with disc brakes, rack, etc. and a full motor with all accessories which we don't need most of this stuff but I couldn't pass it thought if any of it will convert may sell to other Maverick owners, I am interested in how much if any of the front end will work. Thanks
With mods the engine and transmission could be used... Front suspension might as well be from a Rambler, probably be as close of a fit...
If you have a mild motor with an automatic then the 8" should hold up fine. If you have a stick car and plan on doing many engine mods then I would have to disagree with this. I ran mid 10's at over 132 MPH with a supercharged 306 and a TKO 500 in my old '88 Mustang GT with a 8.8 rear end launching at 5,000 RPM's on 27 x 10.5 x 15 Mickey Thompson ET Street bias ply tires. The only mods to that rear was 31 spline axles, an Auburn Pro posi unit and a rear end girdle. There is no way an 8" rear would have held up in that car.
This thread does not say anything about drag racing. Are you saying before they came out with the 8.8 no vehicle with a manual transmission never went faster than 10.5 or launched over 5000 rpm with an 8" rear end? Anyway doesn't NHRA ban C-clip axles on anything going faster than 10.99. On a street car with hard rubber street tires...the car will break traction before the 8" breaks. I agree the 8.8 fatter axles is better on a racecar AFTER you spend big money dealing with big bearing ends, shaving the brackets and welding new spring perches.
With the proper Mav V-8 eng stands...Engine will bolt in after changing the oil pan/front cover . The serp belt set up will even work...the trans may or may not. As for the other stuff...As stated above...The shorty hesders will NOT fit a mav,
I don't need any of the items, I know the motor will work but on the rear end what besides shortening and axle and reposition the perches does it need to give someone a limited slip rear end?
the mustang 8.8 should have a limited slip. if you narrow the 8.8 to the stock maverick width, it will get expensive fast. it will require custom axles to be made. it would be easier and cheaper to put a limited slip into the stock 8".
