I'm in the middle of upgrading to power front disk brakes on my '73 Maverick; keeping the factory rear drums. I have installed a reman '75 Maverick brake booster. The factory '75 Maverick master cylinder is 7 1/4 long. I need one around 6 7/8 - no more than 7" long to fit. Tried grinding one down, now it's no good. Any sources?

    Thanks

Do you have the rest of the "factory" power disc brake parts? If you have all the parts....it all fits. I put the set up on my 1972, and I wrote a tech article on how to do it all.

Booster is mounted to the fire wall versus using the factory shock tower bracket. I prefer the look, but it's tight. Drum master cylinder fits no problem. This car has had power drum brakes for over 10 years.

If it is not a Maverick set-up....not sure what to tell you. Maybe somebody can offer up a small master cylinder from another car.

Thanks for trying to help. Even though the drum master cylinder fit between the booster and the shock tower; I couldn't find a disk/drum master cylinder that's short enough. Looks like I'm going to have to have some flat bar welded over the existing 4 holes that were drilled in the firewall to mount the oem style master cylinder and drill new holes for the mini booster I picked up that just a little bit thinner to allow the oem master cylinder to clear. Did you get your master cylinder from the auto parts store?

    Thanks

    Hey Craig or anyone,

The mini booster idea is going to be too much work I am going to go with factory style manual disc brakes.

    Questions

    1. does it matter whether I'm using the factory drum brake pedal or a disc brake pedal?

    2. I'm assuming the master cylinder for disc brakes is the same whether its power or manual?

    3. what pushrod do I need to attach the pedal to the master cylinder? Size, type, source to buy if needed? Fab the drum one?

    Thanks

If you are going with a factory set-up:

    1. You will need a POWER disc brake inside pedal. It is different.

    2. I do not know if the master cylinder is the same or different

    3. The push rod is different. It is really long.

I already have the disc brake pedal in the car from when it had power drum brakes.

I purchased a master cylinder from the auto parts store for a '75 Maverick.

Do you have a push rod you could sell/ship to me by next week or a source?

    Thanks.

No Maverick ever had power drum brakes....so I am not so sure you have the correct pedal.

I do not have the push rod. If you buy the rebuilt master cylinder and booster....it will come with the rod.

In this picture.....you can see how long the rod is.

save your self the headache and buy the adjustable push rod from npd. I tried every push rod the parts store offered and they were all way to long. Brothers performance in lakeland may have it also.

I think I have a plan of action now; thanks for all the assistance.

Craig - forgive my phrasing, I meant I have the factory Maverick/Comet disc brake pedal installed from when the booster was added to the car.

I seen a new or rebuilt power brake booster on eBay tonight. It had the rod with it.
