i have the pieces to do a conversion to a fuelie engine , intake, rails, injectors, wiring harness all the way to the ignition with keys and the ECU from 88 Mustang GT.....what is a reasonable price for such and has anyone done this swap? Thanks in advance.
It has been done many times, it seems the biggest problem is with the ecu wiring (computer) it is such a mass of wiring and finding a location and getting all the wiring to it can be a nightmare for a novice. You will have to change the oil pan and pick up tube and add an in tank fuel pump and return fuel line to gas tank and either put air sensors in your exhaust or get some eliminators so the computer sees good air quality values Some people just get the donor engine and parts and change out the fuel injection to a carb and then you just have to get a different distributor for it and basically not use any of the Stang wiring, you could probably sale the extra stuff not used and help offset cost of parts you have to buy
I'm in the same boat, I have all the pieces but not sure I want the headache. I do know I am not going to run a carb, not interested in it anymore. The wiring and all that doesn't bother me and the idea that all the pieces are readily available if something fails is tempting but so is this.... http://fitechefi.com/default.asp.pg-GoEFI4 I will be installing one on our 67 Firebird this winter and if I really like it the Mav will get one too.
Well that's what I want to do is sell the stuff, I wouldn't go through that headache but I'm curious what is a fair price to ask?
Yes I have seen several of those throttle body set ups, always fell in the floor at the price, I guess I just don't understand how differently fuel injection differs particularly the throttle body type, direct injection maybe more so but once engine is warm if carb(s) are tuned right I can't see a lot of gain.... however I have little experience with them also as in none other than riding in a friends older model car and the new model truck I drive I turn the key it fires and idles smooth and ready to go whereas the carb(s) I have to pet them, talk sweet to them especially cold weather but once warm and they have cleared their throat it's on!
Ok I should read up before commenting, after a quick review of what that set up does and the " self tuning" yeah I understand
I don't see how mounting/wiring the ECM is a issue, especially using a factory harness as it just plugs in... Harness from ECM is approx 2.5-3ft long before it branches off to the injector harness and various engine sensors, gives lots of options for mounting... Don't need the Stang dash harness, switch etc, EFI & fuel pump harness can be powered from the orig Mav ignition switch... I would add a switch triggered relay powered from battery(though the Stang harness already has two relays), source from battery can also be used for KAM(keep alive memory)... Still if more than two wires mystifies you, probably ought to go with a carb... No I've never converted a carbed vehicle to EFI but when I installed the 5.0 in the T-Bird all engine related wiring/harness had to be replaced, as none of the wiring for the 2.3 turbo is compatible with a V8...
Always seem to boil down to price and what someone is willing to pay.......looking at all these newer bolt on kits from MSD, Edelbrock etc., going for $2000 that is alot of money. In regards to factory stuff, being used I would think it would go for less than those newer stuff? I still have my Holley Pro-Jection unit that I installed when it first came out 25 years ago, it was a throttle body 2V unit that was rated at 670 cfm, was great when I was driving my Comet as my daily driver, especially in the cold winter months! Used it for about a year, before my Comet was taken off the road and has been all boxed up since... Now that I am only driving my Comet in the summer months, I have gone back to the ol'carb, nice and simple, once tuned, it is fine..........anyone interested in my Pro-Jection unit you can let me know! David
Your right what am I thinking, just plug and play! Edit to add: i apologize I didn't have the other bundle of wires that runs to the ignition, I know you were thinking " well hell no wonder it confuses him he's missing the one other wire
Oh most certainly I'm wondering is $200 too much for all of it wiring, Intake, rails, injectors etc.?
I would say that would be a heck of a deal for all that you have pictured.......calling a few junk yards just too see how much they charge and I bet it would be alot more than $200. Market will really decide or even checking our forum's wanted section to see what these where selling for, I really don't remember seeing any EFI for sale, let alone how much. Also whether or not you want to get rid of it quickly or how much interest there would be from our members interested in such a swap? David
