I replaced my Carter YF single-barrel carburetor with a new-to-me Carter of the same model, thinking it would bolt right up and work as the previous one was intended to. My old Carb had HORRIBLE leaks because many of the screw holes had been stripped of all threads, preventing the screws from actually doing anything to hold it together. Needless to say, it runs like a champ with no leaks due to the replacement. Unfortunately, some difference in this one from the other one causes the throttle to sit lower than the throttle on the previous carb. The small amount that it's lowered prevents the gas pedal from working. The angle that the cable pulls simply pulls against the carb itself, instead of turning the throttle. If my throttle bracket was about two inches higher, it wouldn't be a problem. Unfortunately, it isn't. I fabricated a small piece of metal that held my throttle cable a few inches higher and did the job perfectly until I tried to put my air cleaner back on. Didn't fit. I'm new to working on cars, as I'm 16 (almost 17) and this is my first car. I simply need it to get me from point a to point b so I can have a job and therefore have money to fix it up properly. Anyone know a way of adjusting where the throttle sits? I'm not sure if the way I explained it makes any sense, but I'll be happy to clarify something if asked.

I take it the cable pulls the lever upward?? If that's the case the orig no doubt had a differently shaped lever that placed the attachment point higher... Sooo you have wrong carb... I take from your post you got this used?? If that's the case and exchange isn't in the cards I'd cut off the stud, drill a hole through where it was, as well as one beside it and fab up a triangular bracket.... Would need to be maybe a inch tall with a ball/stud at top... Holley and no doubt others sell the attachment studs that are threaded so can be used with a nut... This kit is listed for Chevy but the parts are no doubt stupid, won't know what brand of car they are on(mainly used this one as it has a nice enlargement when dragging the mouse pointer over pict)... https://www.opgi.com/chevelle/CH20150/
