anyone have any suscess with any products for this? looks like grinding metal dust that got wet and left rusty specs on the plastic...
What a coincidence Frank. Later today I'm going to try remove some rust stains caused by the bottoms of some old paint cans on an epoxy painted floor. I'm going to try a product called CLR. I might also try vinegar. I 'll let you guys know what I find. Greg Aka Maverick Dude
Tons of stain removers out there that will get most surface rust stains out. From there you'lol need to consider wet sanding/buffing to remove some of the base material. Just need to be VERY careful if the plastic is coated or pigmented as that creates more variable for age related variations in color as material gets removed. Is this something that can be lightly sanded and buffed back out to the surrounding materials original finish?
If its rust specks from metal "sparks" due to grinding...Thats metal bits that burned their way into the surface...If you cant wipe em off with a rag...Time to wet sand and buff.If you dont remove the particles, they will just rust again after cleaning...
I have used Whink rust stain remover sucessfully on many materials. it works very well on concrete and fiberglass and painted aluminum but is safe enough to use on a cotton t-shirt. I have not tried it on abs plastic or pvc. test a small spot first. I think it's about $6 or $7 for the small one which lasts me 5-6 years per bottle. I usually buy it at the local grocery store in the laundry aisle it looks like this : Rust stain on a white t-shirt that has survived dozens of trips through clorox vanishes instantly with 3 drops of this stuff. Its clear like water. I think its some kind of methyl-ethyl-badshit that reacts chemically with the iron oxide and probably kills the world or something. it works
No luck! None of the above worked and neither did Liquid Wrench. The rust seemed like it penetrated into the epoxy. MD
thanks for the update... mine turned out to be...iron dust...so with some agressive wiping it came off. it was on new plastic so it may be that the release coat from the mould helped.
